In the wake of several Gettysburg-area stores making announcements on if they'll continue to sell Confederate flag-related merchandise, the Lutheran Theological Seminary is making its stand.
Saturday, the day before a Living History event was slated to take place on the seminary's campus, the administration announced it would be banning symbols of hate speech and racism on seminary grounds, said the Rev. John Spangler, executive assistant to the president for communication and planning.
The ban prohibits the display of the flag or flags associated with the Confederate States of America, Spangler said.
"The subsequent use by other groups have made this impossible to maintain the symbol of what the flag stands for," he said.
The seminary still did host re-enactors from the American Living History Education Society Sunday, but without the Confederate flag, Spangler said. The re-enactment took place to depict scenes from the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Many of the re-enactors did not know about the ban until getting there and most were not happy, Spangler said.

I was thinking a bit about that earlier. Killing off a mass of citizens keeps the living ones in terror of being murdered, and so are docile. Plus you have way fewer to come against you if they rise up.

I’m confused, isn’t the war over? Why so much fear from this piece of cloth? Are there confederate troops getting ready for battle? Have they fired on Fort Sumter again? Do we have slaves in the South?
None of this is going on. This exercise is an exercise in futility. Nothing will change. Meanwhile the Lutheran Church should be more concerned with Homosexual marriage and they aren’t. Which demonstrates the Church has become neutralized by Sin and Satan in the United States
I think it will certainly put a lot of re-enactors off of participating. As to visitors, yes, I think it will hurt tourism. Might not have a big effect this year, but it will by next year.

That is what my husband says too.
I plan to visit Gettysburg this August. I also plan on buying only Confederate merchandise while there. And I’m a Pennsylvania Yankee. And if there is none, I’ll let the shop keepers know why I left without buying anything.
Yep, because every one of those removals, and changes, comes with the message of taking away racists symbols, etc. Racists = White people and American history.
We were going to go too. But I have changed plans, and instead will be visiting Orlando.
Next they will be removing the American flag.

Based on what reasoning? Its a freakin flag you silly people, it can no more be racist then the rain falling on one side of the street where a black man stands and not falling on the other side where a white man stands. I am sure that many Indians view the American Flag as racist. Do you suggest we remove all of them? Grow up...........
Weird, isn’t it, how we are helpless to stop such a thing as this? Such a little thing shows us how powerless we all are.
Well, if you really want to get rid of symbols of racism, then ban Democrats.
