Investigators: Only 2 of the fires might be arson
(CNN) —When six black churches in the Southeast burned in the days following the Charleston church killings, authorities and church members were immediately suspicious.
But none of those fires show evidence of being a hate crime and only two might be arson, investigators told CNN.
"We are looking at all of them along with ATF," a federal law enforcement official told CNN. "No reason at this point to link them, but we are continuing to investigate."
"There's no apparent connection, nothing to say they are connected," said Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center. "It's speculation at this point."

If it is arson, I would suspect radical leftists, desperate to show that racism still flourishes in the South. Plus they hate Christian churches in general.

The one here in Charlotte was definitely arson according to the investigators, but there’s been absolutely no evidence of it being a hate crime.

How many church fires and black church are there in a year normally?
These kinds of articles always imply that if six churches burned, it means something nasty. But in a country of 300 million people, there are a lot of fires.
According to this site, there are about 1800 church fires each year in the US. That’s 36 per week.
Six black church fires in a week would thus presumably be something close to normal. 15% of the fires you’d expect in a week.
Doesn’t anybody bother to check this stuff?
It’s a good time for an insurance scam.
There will probably be a lot of black on black violence that was going to happen anyway that will brought to an earlier schedule.
Don’t tell me these are all “friction fires” where the mortgages rub against the insurance policies.
Some probably were.
More likely, though, is straightforward arson. Firebugs have a taste for rural churches because they tend to be of all wood construction, the spire provides a flue so that they "burn real good"...and a rural location affords a long wait before fire equipment can be brought to bear.
