They say they came to the U.S. illegally. Now they’re working on Trump’s D.C. hotel.

For weeks, dozens of construction workers from Latin America have streamed onto the site of the Old Post Office Pavilion in downtown Washington and taken pride in their work building one of the city’s newest luxury hotels.

But that job site is now laden with tension after the man behind the project — billionaire developer Donald Trump — put himself at the center of the nation’s debate over illegal immigration.

Trump garnered headlines — and prompted several business associates to sever relations with him — when he launched his bid for the Republican presidential nomination last month with a controversial description of drug dealers and “rapists” crossing the border each day into the United States from Mexico.

But a Trump company may be relying on some undocumented workers to finish the $200 million hotel, which will sit five blocks from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, according to several who work there. A Trump spokeswoman said the company and its contractors follow all applicable laws. But in light of Trump’s comments, some of the workers at the site said they are now worried about their jobs — while others simply expressed disgust over the opinions of the man ultimately responsible for the creation of those jobs.

Oh so you think Trump talking down illegal immigrant, bad trade polices for the U. S, and U. S. Spending out of control is all about him.

I’ll just let those idiotic comments stand on their own.

If those comments are all about him, then when anyone else mentions them, it would have to be all about them too.

That’s just nut-job territory.

I wonder how many People work for Trump Enterprises, his Contractors and their Sub Contractors?

I guess Mr. Trump spends his days looking into every Employee, no matter how far removed they are from his Company.

Man, the Liberals and RINO’s are going Bat Shit Crazy over this, it’s absolutely delicious.

Elites really believe no Americans work hard like that. It is all theoretical to them.

Elites like Trump know that foreign labor will work as hard as Americans for less money. That's why his clothing line is manufactured in China.

It's not his stance (the border should be enforced, the U.S. should demand equitable trade deals) that is the problem, it's his hypocrisy on this issue of saying one thing while actually contributing to the problem with his actions.

I measure the man by his actions, not his words. His actions make it clear the his next billion is more important to him than American workers.

“But a Trump company may be relying on some undocumented workers “

Why is Trump responsible for checking the status of his employees? Do we expect every employer to check their employees?

Is this not the job of the federal government?

He’s been talking about illegal immigration, bad trade policy, and the U. S. out of control spending. Instead of capitalizing on the momentum he’s created on those issues, you are spending your time trashing the guy across this forum.

This response of yours is the first acknowledgement of his remarks being right, that I remember seeing from you over the last week or so.

Trump hasn’t made a fool out of people like me. I have always acknowledged his problems but that he is exactly right on this. The only fools are the ones that think they have to protect everyone else on the forum from themselves.

We all know Trump for who he is. You’re no sage for figuring it out for yourself. Why do I have to keep reminding you of that?

I’m impressed at how Trump’s truth-telling about of illegal alien crime is driving the lefties crazy. They’re squealing like Ned Beatty, LOL!

Trump would get sued by Obama’s DOJ if he fired them. If they have a SSN, even a phony one, he is not allowed not to hire them. Otherwise, it would be discrimination on the basis of ethnicity.

Lots of Alinsky points going on on this thread. Best to just ignore them. If they are not replied to they’ll end up only talking to self. Notice who starts the name calling and negativism. The season has started. Trump has brought out the tinsel early!

It’s illegal in Washington DC to ask if workers are illegal aliens. It’s a sanctuary city.

I don’t know what it is about her I liked so much, but she’s “on”, when she’s on camera. Very impressive. I was almost riveted.

Thanks.

Actually, the Washington Compost has just outed any illegal construction workers at Trump’s new hotel with this article. Now Trump will be going over the place to see if any illegals are working there with a fine tooth comb, and will can their *sses for sure. So, the Post has just put the finger on their own “beloved” illegal aliens that they try to protect in print, and Trump will now be saying “you’re fired” rather than your hired.

Not only at this construction site of Trump’s, but at all of them throughout the land. Anywhere he has hispanic workers via sub-contractors now, they will all be given an extreme anal scrutiny. I’m sure any illegals that are ferreted out will thank the Washington Compost over and over again for getting them unceremoniously canned, lol. Nice job Post, you go after Trump, and instead you get the illegals you champion fired. Hah!

I see Trump standing up for American jobs

Yes. He cares so much he has the clothing line named after him made overseas. Because he is standing up for 'American jobs'.

What drugs are you people on?

Trump is the only person out there, saying America needs to return jobs to America.

You can point and accuse, but Trump is out there, and nobody else is. Nobody. In either party.

Trump is it.

I would agree, but the same few people have been doing this across the forum for at least a week now. Ignoring them didn’t improve anything.

They have nothing on Trump.

His company hires the GC. It is up to the GC to make sure the subs are compliant with all laws.
