In crisis, Chanel becomes more valuable than cash
Washington Post ^ | 7/7/15 | Ylan Mui

Even those who have hoarded cash fear that the value of the euro will plummet, or that a return to the drachma could leave them stranded with the wrong currency.

And so 48-year-old Sophia Marcoulakis is considering converting her cash into something more stable: a designer handbag.

It’s a luxury the mother of two never would have allowed herself before the banks shut down. But now she considers it an investment, a tangible possession that the government cannot take away.

“You have a feeling that money has lost its value,” said Marcoulakis, a corporate lawyer. “It’s just a number.”

Personally, I’d go with guns, ammo and food, but to each his/her own.

I recommend the novel “Two Women” by Alberto Moravia as a guide to how to prep and, especially, how NOT to prep. It takes place in occupied Italy during the war. Not only a great book but told me what to save and what not to. Definitely toilet paper!!!

just my opinion but I favor silver. It’s easier to make change for an ounce of silver vs an ounce of gold.

"Japan has seen their yen drop from 130 to 80 in the past two years."

This is a good thing for the Japanese. Look at it like this. I was in Japan when the yen was 300 to the dollar. Say you bought a bottle of beer for 300 yen. You paid in essence, a dollar. Years later, when the yen was 100 to the dollar, the same beer would cost you three dollars. When the yen is low like this, Japanese tourism to America increases, and American tourism to Japan decreases. The "higher" the yen goes, the better it is for Americans. And of course, by higher I mean that you can get more yen for the dollars, not less.

Screw the handbags. I’ll bet with water shortages after TSHTF, people will be bathing far less. Which will make Chanel #5 worth it’s weight in diamonds.

>>If the plan is for them to take money from all your bank and retirement accounts as well as from your safety deposit boxes how long do you think that they would let you keep gold?<<

And, of course, there will be no unintended consequences.
