Bernie Sanders And Elizabeth Warren Think Your Cable TV Bill Is Too High, And They Want The FCC
International Business Times ^ | July 10, 2015 | Christopher Zara

Attention, voters: Bernie Sanders is just like you, which is to say he’s tired of paying too much for cable. The independent Vermont senator and 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful joined three fellow senators Thursday in asking the Federal Communications Commission to investigate the “ridiculous prices” charged by pay-TV and broadband services.

In a letter to FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler, Sanders -- along with Democratic Sens. Al Franken of Minnesota and Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey of Massachusetts -- said American consumers are being burdened by ever-increasing monthly bills and a thicket of hidden fees. Citing lack of competition and increased industry consolidation, the senators say the cable and broadband landscape has devolved into a smattering of “de facto telecommunications monopolies throughout the United States.” As a result, they say, cable and Internet providers are able to stick consumers with higher prices and poor service with impunity.

In other words, Sanders is requesting campaign donations from cable companies.

Cable TV used to be commercial free so you paid to watch it. Now you pay to watch commercials.

Yes, I do remember those days. Cable's big draw was 'No commercials!"

I also remember a certain Senator from AZ was going to control cable pricing/gouging many years ago.

And they want government to yada yada yada. I am getting so sick of this crap. Maybe I have just lived too long. Time to go. NO! Hell it’s time to stand up and push back! Damn it! We have taken enough of this godless garbage! People, it may be almost time to take to arms again. I hate to say that but I am slowly coming to that conclusion. Jefferson did say, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” And we certainly have enough tyrants today to liberally fertilize that tree!

The fact that people would actually base their Presidential vote on this is really disturbing.

Agree, but this country is filled with people that vote for whoever promises them the most goodies.

American[s] . . . are being burdened by ever-increasing monthly bills and a thicket of hidden fees. Citing lack of competition and increased industry consolidation

Sounds a lot like speaking of the federal government and all of its ever-increasing fees and charges and taxes.

They need to form the “Cable bill is too high!” party.

It is a big deal. It’s about the total arrogance of a government so bought out that it can’t even solve a simple problem. Bundling should go.

The funny part is most of the cable and sat industry is hard core Democrat supporters (Comcast, DishTV, etc).

Pre-election stunts I guess.

Don’t most of those “cable” companies also provide (and make money from) the pipiline for the “on line” streaming?

Yes, that was the lure of cable years ago.
Now a 60 min show is 40 min show, 20 min commercials.
We DVR almost everything we watch and FF through the chaff.

For every $100 of my cable bill $20 goes into the governments pocket. They make more profit than does Comcast!! Address that Sanders!

They’re right. Warren has always been a consumer watchdog (hate that word). Not that I like either one, but at least they aren’t part of the ‘system’.

Dianne Feinstein and her husband Richard Blum are majority owners of Comcast. Together they made 900 million selling 27 old Post Office buildings where the buyers were already found. All Blum did was fill out the paperwork. Blum has made billions off government contracts like that (especially from selling land that was part of Military Base closures.) I guess DiFi isn’t blackmailed, she’s bribed.
