Um, no.

It never meant any of those things to more than 100 million people here.

When you try to remove what is commonly know as the rebel flag, you are going to find out in short order how many rebels there are.

The democrat donkey is a poisoned symbol representing the party of slavery and racism, 100 x more so than the rebel flag.

We have the name of a democrat politician who was a racists and KKK member on hundreds of buildings, schools and libraries.

Get rid of those and we can talk.

The confederate soldiers were by law put on equal footing with all US veterans.

Boehner should contemplate Santayana’s wisdom.

And that’s BS. The Confederates tried to destroy this country, they were Anti-American in every way.

How many Confederate Government officials and Military Officers were tried for treason after the war ended?

Two can play at that game. Around Richmond alone there are thousands of dead Yankee graves. There are no shortages of backhoes either.

Cold Harbor 688 unkown Union.

Hey DC, You want 'em back?

After his arrest Jefferson Davis asked for a trial but he was never given one. The reason was the AJ knew that a trial would put secession on trial and that was a loser for the USA. So they finally let Jeff Davis go, and named a bunch of stuff after him like US Route 1.

Learn a little history and drop some of that bile.

Well and truly spoken. Your diagnosis of Boehner as a representative of the spineless but profit-driven GOP-E is on target.

Tom Byron:

Apparently your being a member here since 9/1/14 has not been long enough for you to figure out the good folks who post here. Your abusive misuse of the word "we" is simply one example. Between you and me and between you and most who post here, there is no "we."

You take the side of the worst in our history. U. S. Grant knew a thing or two about the War of Northern Aggression and he served two terms as POTUS and clearly had all the power he needed to prosecute Confederate leaders and followers. He had Sherman at his right arm throughout who could have advised him in such prosecutions. For generations, the early Republicans waved "the bloody flag" for political gain but they NEVER seriously contemplated prosecuting ANY Confederates.

At Appomattox, Robert E. Lee honorably surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia. His fellow veteran of the Mexican War, U. S. Grant honorably accepted that surrender and assured Lee that he and his officers and men could take their weapons and horses and go home to renewed service in their respective communities as husbands, fathers, members of their communities. Lee made clear to his own men that they were to refuse to engage in guerrilla warfare in the aftermath. Joe Johnston similarly surrendered to General Sherman. Nathan Bedford Forrest surrendered to some less distinguished Yankee general and also urged his men not to engage in guerrilla warfare. He was said to be the one Confederate cavalry officer whom Grant had feared.

Jeff Davis's crime, if any, was that he was a pathetic excuse for a wartime president and the confederacy, already suffering material disadvantages, could ill afford to have Davis as president.

Nonetheless Robert E. Lee was following in the footsteps of his Revolutionary War father, Lighthorse Harry Lee, in revolting against tyranny. Our Founding Fathers expressed themselves to the world in the Declaration of Independence as to the fact that they had a RIGHT to revolt against the many tyrannies of George III AND that men so aggrieved would always have that right. Stonewall Jackson had done so. A. P. Hill had done so. Robert E. Lee and James Longstreet and Nathan Bedford Forrest and Jeb Stuart and John Bell Hood and so many others whom you would have executed were the worthy successors of George Washington and John Adams and Thomas Jefferson and our other signatories to the Declaration. Lincoln and you were the equivalent of George III. Even Lincoln had no known intention of revenge. George III would gladly have hanged Washington and our other Founders if he had had the chance.

If the regime in DC had attempted to execute ANY Confederate leader, then the Black Flag of anarchy under which Quantrill, Anderson, Jesse and Frank James, Cole Younger and his brothers rode would have spread across the Southland and localized guerrilla warfare would have lasted for generations with massive civilian casualties.

The people who were victorious in the War of Northern Aggression had no desire to even jail Confederates but you know better than they in your capacity as armchair warrior 150 years later. Gotcha!

You must have been terribly disappointed when your campus leftist comrades failed in the 1960s and 1970s to seize power and had to wait until 2008. Awwwww, there, there, poor baby!

I like your post but disagree about Jeff Davis. Lee always spoke highly of Jeff Davis and thought he was the best choice for the job. They really liked each other. Maybe Lee was just being a gentleman.

Gosh, color me surprised. A drunk, orange crying liberal wants to kill anything related to the South.

Has anyone asked any Confederate re-enactors their opinion about the flag opposition? You might get some language you haven’t yet heard plus a lot of actual American history in a lesson you won’t forget. With this insane push, are re-enactments next to feel the spear of liberal aggression?

Yer a little late to the game.

Re-enactors asked not to display Confederate flag in Lewisburg parade

This is why the Democrats are so effective. As soon as Haley caved in on the flag she maybe thought...well, that's the end of that. But then the Dems see a Republican caving on something and they figure...okay...we can paint ALL republicans as racist creeps now if they refuse to remove the confederate flag off anything at all...

Give them an inch and they'll take a mile.

They should have all been tried for treason and executed, soldiers included.

So you would have executed the half-million or so Confederate soldiers who surrendered in April and May 1865, including members of my family?

There's a word for that. It's called genocide.

Nice.
