It was time for Tommy DeSimone to die.
The mobster famously portrayed by Joe Pesci in "Goodfellas" killed two made men, tried to rape the wife of his gangster pal Henry Hill and stupidly lifted his ski mask during 1978s historic $6 million Lufthansa heist.
So John Gotti took care of it personally.
The handsome capo used a silencer-equipped Colt .38 to shoot DeSimone three times in the skull in January 1979 in the basement of an Italian restaurant on Arthur Avenue in The Bronx, says an upcoming book, The Lufthansa Heist, written by Hill and journalist Daniel Simone.
Its the first time the details of Gottis role in the death of the 28-year-old psychopath have been revealed.

Soundtrack was pretty awesome too.
Great music was a dime a dozen back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Not very difficult to come up with good songs from then. Since then, fur-get-bout-it!
“I had one of the fully auto .38 Supers as shown above.”
That looks AWESOME!!! I hope you made some serious $$$ when you sold it.
“Ma” was the real life mother of the Diector if I’m not mistaken.
.38 Super, maybe? But not much use to silence one, as the bullet is seriously supersonic. If they mean a silenced revolver somebody is messing with somebody else.
Yes, that is correct. His father was also in the film, in two different scenes. He plays one of the 2 mobsters that brings Tommy to the house to be "made" (actually kills him), and in the prison scene as Paul Sorvino's personal cook.
Check them both out in this 5-part documentary Scorsese made when he was first starting out. I believe it was his first film. I think they lived on Elisabeth Street at the time, in or close-to New York's Little Italy section.
In reality he was killed because he demanded their street action from his return from prison and they weren’t giving it to him. It was not about an insult - just greed.
I think... I remember you--
I recall... you had that snow cone... stand, right?
So, where did you... hide the Lufthansa loot?
So... not saying, eh?
Well, you grew up okay... and I still like... the way you part your hair!
You left out the ballistic nomenclature of the ammunition that may have been used. With that being said, you may be right or you may be wrong. Who really cares since this is just a movie.........Gotta love you rambos tho.........you definitely know your shi$.....
No kidding? I didn’t know that. Thank you, Moonman62!
As I recall, I traded a well used 1943 M1A1 Thompson for it worth about $600 in 1973 dollars and sold it a year or so later for $950 to a Police Captain in Houston. I was trying to sell him a suppressed Mac-11 in .380 for $350 but when he saw the .38 Special fully auto, his eyes lit up-- And I knew a sale was about to be made.
Somewhere I read within the past few year that there were only about 400 of them made and the price mentioned was $50,000.
Yeah, part of me wished I still had it, but then again, I had fun with it and make a good piece of change off it.
I think the action was originally his (Billy Batts's). They took it over when he went away. He expected it back upon his return.
Ah, Bender! I hid it in a pile of shaved ice and old pigtail hair.
Nobody will ever find it!

Glad to help. IMDb is a great resource for that kind of stuff, so if there are other shooting locations from other movies or TV shows, you should check it out. I’m not sure they always have such a specific list, but it can’t hurt to check.
Best,
I know very little about firearms (and am too lazy to read through all the posts here), but I thought silencing a revolver was not really effective outside of the Nagant Revolver because of its unusual design.
That is, I always thought that a revolver’s cylinder would release enough gas, etc. when fired that you couldn’t really effectively silence the weapon.
Again, though, I’m no expert here.
You seem to be a lot closer to one than I am. :)
I’m no Rambo, but yes, I do know my shi$.
:-)
Here’s a short (10 min) documentary on Tommy DiSimone:
