SENATOR TED CRUZ: WHY DO WE MAINTAIN GUN-FREE ZONES ON MILITARY BASES? [April 2015]
Breitbart ^ | 21 Apr 2015 | AWR HAWKINS

On April 19, Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told gun owners at a Litchfield, New Hampshire, hunting club that it is past time to examine gun-free zones on military bases and to find a way to change the policy so soldiers can protect themselves.

Cruz cited three gun-related attacks in gun-free zones since November 2009 to emphasize his point: Fort Hood (2009), DC Navy Yard (2013), and Fort Hood (2014).

These attacks were all carried out on military installations by gunmen who passed background checks for their firearms. So the situation has not arisen from a lack of gun control, but from conditions created in a climate where there is so much gun control that innocent people cannot defend their own lives.

According to Politico, Cruz said, “I am very concerned about that policy. I think it’s very important to have a public discussion about why we’re denying our soldiers the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

Cruz told gun owners in Litchfield that he is “pressing” Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for “hearings on whether soldiers should be allowed to carry their own concealed firearms onto military bases.”

Military gun-free zones were implemented just months into the Clinton presidency. The Washington Times reported that “one of President Clinton’s first acts upon taking office in 1993 was to disarm U.S. soldiers on military bases.”

On April 3, 2014, Breitbart News reported that the original directive relating to military gun-free zones, 5210.56, was issued during the last months of President George H.W. Bush’s presidency. Then, AR 190-14

Because the Libs view members of the military as psychotic as themselves and they don’t even trust themselves with guns....

The Vast majority of the military personnel are consummate professionals....

To the left they are animals that they only let out of their cages when they want to them to die....

As I left my gun free zone (MCB Quantico) and was funneled through several choke points that could have been killing zones, I wondered about my useless concealed carry permit.

I also mourned the four Marines.

What the hell are we doing?

We have become sitting ducks.

WHY DO WE MAINTAIN GUN-FREE ZONES ON MILITARY BASES?

So as many of our troops as possible will be killed.

Very concerned? public discussion? This statement sums up my problem with Ted Cruz. I love the guy but he speaks like a polite timid lawyer. He will never get elected President talking like this on an issue so clear.

Think about it - we have terrorists coming onto military bases and the soldiers are helpless? Cruz (and others) should be DEMANDING this ridiculous policy be stopped immediately. Until Cruz shows some emotion he will go nowhere. He needs to speak his message clearly and forcefully like a Chris Christie or a Donald Trump.

My first thought today when I saw the news was again “Why?”

It should be a requirement for our military personnel to be armed any time they are in uniform or on duty. A functioning weapon should be part of the military dress code.

Take a breath and realize that this was Ted Cruz in April of this year, already discussing the issue BEFORE this latest outrage.

Considering probably half the members here, certainly a significant number demanded those insane leaders to begin with NO MATTER WHAT and called anyone opposing them Obama loving America haters, Insanity is not rare here either.
