The doctrine of hurt feelings

“Ableism,” announced our 17-year-old daughter one afternoon, ticking off her fingers. “Chauvinism. Sizeism. Sexism. Classism. Racism. Genderism. Ageism. … Why does everything have to be an ‘ism’? Why does everyone have to be a victim?”

In this brave new world our young adult daughters are entering, one of the most pernicious human failings they will face is the victimhood mentality, sometimes called “the doctrine of hurt feelings.”

These days, everyone wants to be a victim. If you’re not truly a victim of something, American society will now help by creating an “ism” tailor-made for you out of thin air. Nothing is your fault. It’s our fault for having a bias against your (pick one) age / gender / orientation / weight / skin tone / religion / nation of origin / employment / income / opinions / um, handedness, um … did I miss anything?

Guess the old "sticks and stones" adage no longer is applicable huh? Seems the problem with all the ism's is that people let others dictate how they feel. So, if everybody (?) has the "right" to be offended, then others have the "right" to be offensive. Someplace in the BOR words are protected. It was/is, at one time, a crime to use words to threaten a persons life (and still is) but now apparently we've had someone add the threat to someones feelings. Too frickin' bad. Pound sand. Thank you Mrs. Lewis from the far norther reaches of ID. I like to think of myself as an equal opportunity offender. :>}

everyone wants to be a victim

So true.

And so sad. Who thinks that's a healthy social attitude? And yet it seems almost universal.

My entire life I always believed inside that no one is better than me. Not in a smug a-hole manner(maybe :>}) but to help instill self confidence. I know there are smarter people than me, stronger people than me, more talented people, better looking, faster, more money, blah, blah, blah. But to my own internal sense of self worth, nope. Nobody can take that away.

Johnny Lennon made fun of all the isms 46 years ago: Ev’rybody’s talking ‘bout
Bagism, Shagism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, Tagism
This-ism, that-ism, is-m, is-m, is-m.

The only time society really likes the military is when they are wounded, disabled, etc. Times they can be shown as victims.
When they are strong and powerful, they take no pride in them.

Rudyard Kipling

Tommy

I went into a public-’ouse to get a pint o’ beer,
The publican ‘e up an’ sez, “We serve no red-coats here.”
The girls be’ind the bar they laughed an’ giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an’ to myself sez I:
O it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, go away”;
But it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but ‘adn’t none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-’alls,
But when it comes to fightin’, Lord! they’ll shove me in the stalls!
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, wait outside”;
But it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide,
The troopship’s on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide,
O it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide.

Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap;
An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.
Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, ‘ow’s yer soul?”
But it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll.

We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;
While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, fall be’ind”,
But it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind,
There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind,
O it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind.

You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all:
We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
But it’s “Saviour of ‘is country” when the guns begin to shoot;
An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
An’ Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool — you bet that Tommy sees!

"Why does everything have to be an ‘ism’? Why does everyone have to be a victim?

Because We The People have surrendered our once Constitutional Free Republic to the Progressive Liberal Democrat/Rino Communist Uni-Party.

We had a Constitutional Mandate to DEPOSE a tyrannical gov't and we failed to perform our duty as a Free Republic requires.

We now think we can change things around through the electoral process, the communists are in total control now, does anyone think they are going to surrender all their gains to a former political process they have spent decades insuring that it is demonstratively thoroughly corrupted to their benefit.

Here is the question; is it or is it not to late to DEPOSE the current tyrannical gov't?

being a ‘victim’ provides and excuse for not succeeding.

leaders don’t look for the victim card. they’re too busy winning.

Here's the rational behind being a victim.

Rather than having to reciprocate for goodness given - a victim tells a sob story.

This is how liberal elites pay off various thugs, criminals, and lowlifes who vote democrat WITHOUT THESE PEOPLE HAVING TO DO ANYTHING IN RETURN. The 'victims' can be eternal TAKERS because their sob story is all that's required. Note here the only 'victims' groups allowed this status are groups that vote democrat.

All identified victim groups are democrats. That's a tip-off to the scam...

Democrats are buying votes... and they're telling the rest of us we can't expect anything in return for our 'investment'

The sob story is payment enough... AND we're NOT allowed to complain about how any of these people act OR how they spend the money they're given...

It's a scam based on how good people would act and feel IF they ran into a person who REALLY was a victim... These dem groups aren't victims... it's a scam to buy votes for democrats - with money taken from all of us...

I wonder how one manages to do business with so many isms running around, how do you expect people to actually accomplish anything, or for that matter organize according to talents.

There is zero Constitutional protection against being "offended".

You must not have the updated version. You know. The flexible one where offensive words matter. Offenders don’t matter. #offensivewordsmatter LOL! My pocket constitution doesn’t show it either. Sorry snowflakes. I try to be fair and equal in offending.
