Donald Trump’s Follow Up to Previous Statement About Sen. John McCain

Earlier, 2016 presidential contender Donald Trump made a very ignorant statement about senator and Vietnam POW John McCain that may have greatly hurt his chances at the White House.

Trump said he favors “people that weren’t captured” in war.

Here’s the Donald’s follow up…

There’s no doubt that McCain is a Republican in name only, but I feel Trump lost a good portion of potential voters by disparaging a member of our armed forces.

Donald can say he is “fighting for our Veterans,” and I’m sure he supports them now and would as president also, but this may be hard to walk back.

I have heard that McCain turned down early release from Vietnam when it became known he was an admiral’s son. If true, he is most certainly a hero, but I don’t know if it’s true.

McCain has been let off the hook far too long because of his POW status. You cannot acknowledge his time as a POW without recognizing all the damage he's done since then. It's dishonest.

How many people have died because of McCain's involvement in getting Benghazi weapons to ISIS? How much blame does McCain deserve for the regime-change war-monger mess we now have?

You're picking on the wrong guy. The way to honor Veterans is do prevent meaningless or detrimental war mongering in the future. And show some respect for Trump who's highly acknowledged for his generosity and concern for Veteran's causes.

Well, I am not a McCain fan for the obvious reasons, but I do think he is a hero. You may not be aware, but he was offered release as a POW and he refused to go until everyone was released which meant, I believe, another 2 years as a POW. I think that needs to be acknowledged. However, other than that, I don’t have much respect for McCain.

Trump's appeal is that he has all the right RINO enemies.

More attacks by RINOs just increases the esteem of those who have had enough of the RINOs.

The others were never going to vote for him anyway.

My personal belief, based on nothing, is that Trump and Cruz are a team and that Trump really doesn't want to be POTUS, but he wants to change the landscape. At some point, after all the RINOs are whimpering in a smoldering heap, he will withdraw and tell is supporters to move to Cruz.

If the objective is to prevent the GOP establishment from shoving another RINO down our throats, it's about the only kind of plan that would actually work.

I am not giving up on Trump. He isn’t a politician, he’s gonna mis-speak. They are all attacking him. McCain says that Trump just roused the “crazies.” I am not crazy, and McCain has used up all his punches on his hero card.

I didn’t see Trump’s original remarks but I can’t disagree with his remarks quoted above. McCain gets every bit of my respect for his service and his bravery while imprisoned. I can’t speak to his performance while in the Congress but from everything I’ve heard from his constituents and others, he has been doing an increasingly, incredibly lousy job as a Senator and should be retired.

When it comes down to Trump vs McCain, I’ll take Trump any day. McCain had his chance to save this country from Obama and he was inept and incapable of winning.
