John McCain has milked his military credentials for decades now, but it’s strange that so few of the men who served with him have much good to say about him. From what I heard, he was not a very good pilot and frankly, if his father and grandfathers hadn’t been admirals, he’d have been washed out early in his career. Not many men crash three birds and keep their wings.

I think Trump went over the line on this one because he has no military experience, may even be considered a draft dodger, depending on how you define it, was rude, crude and disrespectful, and has given his detractors a perfect issue to beat him over the head with.

Back on McCain. He was a dickhead as a junior officer, he flew a mission, he got shot down and captured. None of that fits the category of “hero”.

I have heard that McCain turned down early release from Vietnam when it became known he was an admiral’s son. If true, he is most certainly a hero, but I don’t know if it’s true.

Well, I am not a McCain fan for the obvious reasons, but I do think he is a hero. You may not be aware, but he was offered release as a POW and he refused to go until everyone was released which meant, I believe, another 2 years as a POW. I think that needs to be acknowledged. However, other than that, I don’t have much respect for McCain.
