John McCain responds to Donald Trump: 'I'm not a hero'

Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) said Monday that real-estate developer Donald Trump should apologize for comments he made over the weekend — but not to him.

"I think he may owe an apology to the families of those who have sacrificed in conflict and those who have undergone the prison experience in serving our country," McCain said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

McCain was responding to Trump, a GOP presidential candidate who panned his war record over the weekend. Trump ignited a media firestorm by saying McCain was a war hero only because he was captured during the Vietnam War.

"He's not a war hero," Trump said Saturday while speaking at a forum in Iowa. "He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured, OK? I hate to tell you ... I believe, perhaps, he's a war hero."

Almost every Republican running for president quickly condemned Trump's remarks and praised McCain as a true war hero. But McCain, whose fighter plane was shot down over Vietnam and who was held prisoner for more than five years, said the real heroes were some of his commanding officers.

"In the case of many of our veterans, when Mr. Trump said that he prefers to be with people who are not captured, well, the great honor of my life was to serve in the company of heroes," McCain said. "I'm not a hero. But those who were my senior ranking officers … those that have inspired us to do things that we otherwise wouldn't have been capable of doing, those are the people that I think he owes an apology to."

Trump's comments about McLame may have been as intemperate as those he made about Mexican illegal aliens, but in both cases, he spoke the truth. The media, liberals and the oft-offended folks in this country have been in control of the Left's cultural Marxist politically correct language and conversations for so long now, that no one can seemed to distill the truth anymore. Leastwise them.

McLame may be a veteran and former POW but that doesn't necessarily make him a "hero" or God. I'm a military veteran and I agree with Trump about McPain. First, he is a big-time RINO and a wannabe democRAT. His accomplishments in life and the Senate have been few. Besides being last in his class at Annapolis, he dumped his first wife after returning from Vietnam because she had been disfigured in an auto accident and pursued a younger, richer, socialite to remarry. He was a carpetbagger in running for office in Arizona, sullied his reputation for honesty in the Keating Five affair and has done nothing since to justify his notoriety with the media. And he was the worst, God-awful presidential candidate in my lifetime.

He has ridden his fame for being a Vietnam War POW for as long he can and now he's running on fumes. I didn't vote for him the last two elections when I lived in Arizona because of his willingness to get in bed with the democRATS and act like one of them. Arizona voters need to put him out to pasture where he belongs, in the next election.

Again, Trump may have been a little bombastic in his remarks about McLame, but he was not wrong about him. McCain can call his constituents in Arizona "crazies" but the media says nothing. Trump responds and the media goes "crazy". Geez, at one time, McLame was a media darling for saying the same kind of things in public that Trump says and was given the label a "maverick" and the "straight-talk express". Sharyl Attkisson has written a clarifying article about what Trump really said, and it is not what the media, the liberal bottom-feeders and his Republicans primary opponents wanted to hear.

This is all much to do about nothing. Way too early in the campaign cycle for this to mean much. But I respect Trump for telling the Washington elitists, the political establishment and the liberal media that he doesn't need to be lectured to. Finally, some honest talk from a non-politician on a political stage.

Thousands of veterans were in Trumps audience as supporters, at the Phoenix venue and on nationwide television.

McCain called thousands of U.S. veterans mentally ill “Crazies”.

All the times he’s been called a hero over the years, and the only time he responds negatively is when Trump calls him one?

If what you say is true, then the D’s knew they had the election won the night McCain got the nomination.

That’s interesting.

I do believe they knew they had it in the bag. When McCain started his acceptance speech explaining how “they broke me” everyone I know was asking “What the hell was that all about?” I’ve always thought it was because he thought the democrats and the media were going to rain on his ticker tape parade.

More of the campaign to make it Jeb vs Hilliary. McCain knows exactly what he is doing.

Let nothing distract us from... who can beat Jeb for the nomination?
AND ... who can beat Hilliary for the Presidency?

Everything else is a distraction.

Of course he was, but that is not the official position, yet, I believe. And it ultimately, these fools consider him a POW, then under the “definition”, he is also a hero.

Dear McBackstabber,

Live by the sword, die by the sword. Your are the biggest character mutilator in the Rino pup tent of the GOP. I’ll never forget you demanding the IRS harm the Tea Party.

Please go away and take your fat, pervert, poison lipped daughter with you. This is just terms of endearment like you use, wackobird.
