Donald Trump is soaring over his GOP rivals in a new nationwide Washington Post/ABC News poll conducted amid his controversial comments about Sen. John McCains (R-Ariz.) war hero status.
According to the just-released poll, Trump with 24 percent support among likely Republican voters holds a comfortable, double-digit lead over nearest competitor Scott Walker, who captures 13 percent support.
Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, and Sen. Marco Rubio round up the top 5 with 12, 8, and 7 percentage points of support, respectively. Sen. Rand Paul, meanwhile, sits in sixth place with 5 percentage points.

Incredible how out-of-touch he is.
Muslim inbreeding
“The Dems, the Gop, and the lame media all hate Trump, therefore I support Trump 100%. Its just that simple”
Go with the general that frightens the enemy.
He’s definitely getting the flak. Listening to him getting bashed by “The Five” right now.
I don’t agree with your post, but if the GOPe says anything at all about anything the answer is yes, I immediately oppose it. I think they should be denied the right to open their eyes in the morning. I hate traitors more then enemies by a wide margin.
You fellas just don’t get it. All the other politicians who are running will be better managers of the status quo. Only Trump seems to be the kind of guy who could really shake things up in Washington. He is a capitalist with a heart, a patriot who loves this country, a genius in many ways, and he deserves a chance to run as a legitimate candidate. It’s a long campaign He will stand or fall on his own.

Insulting a nasty establishment scumbag like McCain is apparently not perceived as self destructing according to this poll.
I know. That’s what I really like about Trump. He says things that get him in trouble because he’s not bothering to hide anything. His cards are on the table, warts and all.
The National Commander of the VFW was quoted in Hill article which can be found at the following link
http://thehill.com/policy/defense/248514-veterans-group-trump-owes-mccain-an-apology
The relevant portion of the article states:
“And John W. Stroud, national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, also bashed Trump.
For someone who never served a day in uniform to criticize the service and sacrifice of a combat-wounded veteran is despicable,” he said, according to the Washington Post.”
He hurt himself with some supporters when he voted for the initial TPA bill and looked for a time like his big donors were pulling the strings.
And he went through all his reasons hy he supports free trade at a time when many conservatives and others believe these one-sided trade agreements that always increase our huge trade deficit are damaging our economy and the middle class.
Then he voted against TPA the second go around in the Senate.
That couple of weeks hurt him and he hasn't recovered, plus Trump has pulled some support from most everyone.
Lol, I am not concerned about offending the left. Trump simply has record of fighting for us beyond his comments of the last month or so. So, I don’t trust him and am concerned about conservatives uniting behind him rather than a proven conservative fighter like Cruz or Walker.
WTH is this crap? Cruz a manager of the status quo? What have you been smoking?
Cruz has been shaking things up in Washington for the past 2 years. Where the hell have you been?
Trump is on record as being for Universal Health Care. He will also support every raising of the debt ceiling and attack any Conservative that tries to vote against it. He will not rein in the activist judges on the Supreme Court and who knows what nominees he’ll put on there which may be the last chance for conservatives to regain control on the bench. I know who Ted Cruz will put on there. Trump will put on Anthony Kennedy’s at best.
The fact Trump polls so high should at least convince conservatives that they can control the primary race and get someone in that’s actually a conservative.
I never thought I’d see the day where this site would start actively supporting liberal populists over the truly conservative candidates.
I couldn’t agree more. It is suicide to follow someone that has no track record of even being on our side simply because he knows how to insult people.
Hopefully the debates will help sort everything out. Lets just not repeat 2012 where the conservatives jumped from one vanity candidate to the next while the liberal republicans secured the nomination and our certain defeat.
^^^ This.
I think you are right. He’s drawing people in that aren’t part of the normal GOP family tree.
I see so many of my friends and pundits dissing Trump, it makes me wonder where those 24% are coming from.
You might be best to conduct research on what other vets who were in Hanoi Hilton have had to say concerning McLames treatment. Others were there 5+ years unergoing the same if not more and longer torture against MCCains 2.5. He heavily leveraged that hero status as granted by the media merely for political power while others far more decorated undergoing much longer torture have had to sit idly by and listen to the media banter on about John. I’ll simply say yes he did go through hell as did all the boys that were captured but to say he is a hero and having to keep being reminded of it is not in my book hero. Typically Heros can be spotted as they are unheard and don’t need to constantly remind us of their acts of heroism. Did he take a cheap shot? Sure he did in politics it’s a mans game and there are no rules. Should Trump have attacked on a different level? Sure. But when you take a swipe first (McCain calling Trump supporters loons) well then look for the blowback.
If he’s the GOP nominee, he’s the lesser evil, right?
Look, I would probably vote for Satan over a Democrat, but the thought of Trump being the guy I'd have to vote for--yikes!
