I will tonight be posting a piece exclusively on Free Republic about McCain and the USS Forrestal fire. This will HOPEFULLY put to rest ALL of the BS that is posted here concerning this event.
When did you enter the Navy?
O and just “by-the-way” did I SAY I was going to “rely” on Wiki for my facts? NO! I sais that is was a pretty good “Read-Ahead”!
A read ahead for what? More Wiki material, or something real?
Instead, he asked to join VA-163 aboard the Oriskany. As a LCDR he was expected to lead strikes; his reputation in the A-4 community was such that the Airwing Commander and squadron Commanding Officer readily welcomed him.
so you finally read and took the save #19 gave you?
April 11 1980, First Ship USS Independence CV-62(Forrestal’s Brother Ship), V-1 Div(Flight Deck) Crash and Salvage Crew. Any You?
That’s what I thought.
What “Pray-Tell” does THAT mean.
You know.
I am going to revert back to my ABH Days and say to you “F*CK YOU”!

I will be interested in your later article. It is always great to have posters that have first hand knowledge of the equipment, procedures and technical aspects of an event to provide knowledge and insight that we don’t have.
I have always considered McCain’s involvement in that event to be peripheral and not something related to his earlier hot dogging accident.
Thanks so much for the effort to tell it like you see it.
Good. Glad to see someone setting that story straight.
Classy move, guy.
McCain didn’t even run for office until 1982 for Congress. I’m guess you guys all knew he was an up and comer Navy Guy on the political scene way back in 1980, etc.
You started it. I merely told you about the dangers of Wikipedia, you chose to take it as an affront to your character, experience or whatever. I’m sure you do have knowledge of similar operations he might have undergone, I don’t know. That wasn’t the point. I never said a word one way or the other in this thread about his military career.
What are we supposed to think? You pull a “Glenn Beck” promo and then throw us a “Wiki” teaser?
This doesn’t excuse what he did to our pows when he came back. And there is video of that.
My whole point in all of this isn’t to say anything one way or the other about his military career except to possibly say his being a POW may have shaped his mindset that now confounds us as conservatives. My belief is that this man is insane and that his actions as a past and current US Senator have not been for the benefit of our country.
If you use Wiki, it will be totally ignored as "indisputably factual" is not a hallmark of Wiki.
Wiki is constantly being "editorialized" and it would not surprise me one bit if McCain had someone on staff that did nothing more than keep his image up.
I served in the Viet Nam war.
I personally observed the conditions of some of the "facilities" for keeping POW's.
Anyone that survived those conditions is, in my mind, one hell of a strong character.
Having said that, I must say this: While I honor John McCain for his service and his sacrifice during the 6-8 year period of his capture, captivity and subsequent recovery, I do not honor his morals and ethics after that period.
His failings are too lengthy to go into here, but they are well known.
I voted for him against a piece of shit that I would not characterize as anything other than a piece of shit.
Had I to do it over again, I would do the same, even now, despising McCain, if it meant that a damned Clinton or that socialist piece of shit Sanders got elected.
McCain is one step above obama, therefore, he got my vote. But I held my nose while I pulled that lever and I shed a tear for the future of my country.
McCain should be and was, recognized for his actions...yes, but truth be known, he played it up for his own self-aggrandizement, pretty much the same way that piece of shit Kerry tried to, with his Purple Heart for rice fragments in his thigh.
He received so much "kissy-kissy" that he actually thought he could do no wrong...and that is reflected in his personal and political life today.
So there is no need to post a "clarification" of what McCain did or did not do 50 years ago.
I have a personal belief that McCain intentionally delayed and obfuscated the MIA hearings, because it was part of the deal he made with the NVN, in exchange for medical treatment for his injuries suffered during evacuation from his A/C.
I'm not claiming a specific agreement and I'm not a Manchurian Candidate conspiracy touter, but I believe there was an understanding that he would do the bidding of future masters, using his status and family connections to do so, to keep the rest of the world from knowing how the NVN treated those that they kept after he came home.
And that he did so not only for the favors he received, but also under pain of exposure and embarrassment to his family, most especially his father.
Would he have been a good Commander-in-Chief?
Nope.
He would have been hated and reviled, not only as CinC, but as the leader of the free world.
But he still would have been better for our republic than the piece of dog excrement and muslim-sympathizer that is there now.
Why get upset with words written here? I think a lot of folks here just want to provoke.
As an ABH the Forrest Fire was always in the back of my mind as my instructor had us watch the film everyday, plus we had a great Air Bosn who drilled us after flight ops on Indy.
