Even if it did, the OnStar systems of the time had an analogue/AMPS cel phone interface—Verizon was the preferred provider, and they shut down their analogue network in 2007/2008, taking down those, and anything else that ran on the analogue network. (Upgrades *were* available for some of the more recent models, but that was optional)

Also, this is why I happen to like classic vehicles. Not a single solid-state device in sight!

Installing electronic control systems, therefore, is at MY discretion. If the need arose, I could engineer a system from the ground up, optimised for maximum security.

"The optional COMAND Online* system with Media Interface is also available as part of the Premium Packages. This offers wireless Internet access via a compatible Bluetooth® mobile phone. When the car is stationary, you can search the Internet using the onboard browser.

You can also use the Media Interface for the connection of MP3 players and other portable media devices to the vehicle’s communications system."

Of course, this information refers to the current year model. I can't seem to find the year model he was driving.

“Your only chance is the shifter and power brakes. Assuming they are also not computer controlled”

The shifter in the Grande Cherokee is computer controlled. I hate it.

Well, you’ll likely spin then. But that’s better than going straight into a tree like Mr Hastings...

The feds are requiring black boxes in vehicles.

If I had a hammer, I'd hammer in the morning. I'd hammer in the evening, all over the box.

“...But we all like the nice power everything and we have to have our connectivity...”

Power brakes and steering are nice if done well. I’m still nervous about them in the event of malfunction. Ever try to steer or brake a vehicle when the engine craps out? It’s not for the over-50 crowd.

As for other stuff, I hate power windows, have relatively little use for a radio or music player of any sort. I listen to the road, the tires, the engine. Look in front and behind for cops and idiot drivers. I putt around residential areas but the Interstate highways are fair game. Never been ticketed for doing more than 80 or so. :)

That is one disadvantage of having so high tech cars now a days. Every thing can be hacked or access thru online.
