Hacker remotely crashes Jeep from 10 miles away
(UK) Daily Telegraph ^ | July 21, 2015 | Daniel Bates

Posted on 07/21/2015 9:51:38 AM PDT by Zakeet

Hackers took control of a car and crashed it into a ditch by remotely breaking into its systems from 10 miles away whilst sitting on their sofa.

In the first such breach of its kind security experts cut out the engine and applied the brakes on the Jeep Cherokee, sending it into a spin.

The US hackers said they used just a laptop and mobile phone to access the Jeep’s on-board systems via its wireless Internet connection.

They claim that more than 470,000 cars made by Fiat Chrysler could be at risk of being attacked by similar means - including those driven in the UK.

Damn, that was my dad’s truck. 4 door. Should have bought it off him when I had the chance.

“There is absolutely no reason why the engine/steering/etc system is connected to the radio/phone/etc systems. None.”

Sure there is! The government might need access...for your safety, of course.

I know next to nothing about computer technology, but I have said all along that this was the major reason behind Obamugabe’s “Cash for Clunkers” program — control of all vehicles on the road.

I have one that runs sometimes.

Maybe a replacement weber kit at the end of the month if the budget allows.Be an incentive to get back on the electrical horse to finish signals and auxiliary lights.

I’m equal opportunity, there is a project CJ7 in a building I hope to get to at some point.

Good theory and I am very inclined to believe it.

E-brake will barely slow a car at full throttle.

Your only chance is the shifter and power brakes. Assuming they are also not computer controlled

Wasn’t there an investigative reporter who claimed to have a hot story on high government officials killed in an unexplained firey crash?

Do you have an OnStar button in that truck...?

Nope. When I was looking for a Silverado, I found several that had OnStar. Rejected them out of hand.

There is an Internet of Things. But it doesn't include any of my things, other than this PC.

I drive a 1999 Jeep. Not even power windows. No hacking for me.

In case of *that* emergency, use handy CCW to shoot and deflate your own vehicle tires. LOL. ;-)

How about neutral and trying to feather the emergency brakes? Beats scrambling a transmission I guess.

The trouble is, some of these computer controls will not allow that. It's all electronic. If the computer won't let the car shift from drive, it won't shift from drive, regardless of what you do.

“have said all along that this was the major reason behind Obamugabe’s “Cash for Clunkers” program — control of all vehicles on the road.”

I hadn’t thought of that, but it does serve Obola’s purpose.
Also remember that at the same time, he had US Census workers GPS tag every door address.

Come to think of it, that served him and Valerie quite well as contributing to the newly discovered political demographic dossier on each of us subjects.
See you all in the camps...

Yep, see you at the re-education camp.

Actually, since I am a Boomer, I figure they will just execute me and keep the younger dissenters in the camps.

Astute man, you are, and to the point.
Umm, I’m a boomer too.
Guess our red list line will suffer less.

Uninstall your printer software and delete the printer. Download the basic drivers (No Software Package). It won’t ask for internet anymore. I have had this battle before!
