Average thickness of Arctic sea ice in spring as measured by Cryosat between 2010 and 2015. The volume of Arctic sea ice increased by around a third after an unusually cool summer in 2013.

“Meeting Neptune has been postponed, because we’re not headed to the Arctic circle for the time being. The ship has gotten called away by the government of Canada to help break ice for supply ships to the community of Inukjuak in the Hudson Bay.”

Inukjuak is about halfway up the eastern shore of Hudson Bay, so I suspect the entire northern entrance to the bay must still be frozen, or at least have huge sheets of ice floating around.
