YouGov poll: Veterans view Trump more favorably than they do McCain

What makes those numbers even more amazing is that veterans are outliers on this. Among the wider public, McCain’s favorable rating is 40/45 while Trump’s is 34/60. You tell me:

Why don’t vets prefer McCain, even as the lesser of two evils? One theory is that veterans tend to be conservative, which means they have many years of political grievances against ol’ Maverick piled up. If that were true, though, we should see McCain struggling among Republicans generally. We don’t. His favorable rating among GOPers is 57/36, slightly better than Trump’s at 57/39. Another theory: Maybe vets appreciate Trump for his fearlessness in being politically incorrect. McCain has incorporated most of the pieties of Beltway Republicans into his political persona. Trump hasn’t (yet).

Veterans might respect the guy for going his own way no matter how much heat he takes for it. Or maybe this is simpler than all that — maybe, having watched America’s political class make a hash of foreign policy over the last 15 years, vets prefer someone who’s outside that class to someone who’s in it, even if the insider is a bona fide war hero. No one believes professional politicians anymore when they talk about making America great again. No one really believes Trump when he says it either, but at least he doesn’t have the stink of years of failure at the task on him.

I don’t even like Trump, and I like him A LOT better than John McCain.

In fact, I don’t like John McCain at all, I loathe him.

...another theory: Maybe vets appreciate Trump for his fearlessness in being politically incorrect. McCain has incorporated most of the pieties of Beltway Republicans into his political persona. Trump hasn’t (yet).

First of all, old Maverick prides himself in being politiclaly incorrect, so these comments are whacked out.  There has to be more to it than just being politically incorrect.  It's how they are politically incorrect.  Trump does so with a clearly Right leaning manner, and the Maverick does it by going against Conservatives.  One could say McCain's method of going politically incorrect, is to go politically incorrect against the core of his own party members.  He's a jackass.  There's your clue!

I also find it insulting that the writer thinks he's being clever by insinuating that it's only a matter of time before Trump secumbs to the beltway mentality.  "Trump hasn’t (yet)."  You know folks, in time Trump may swing more Left.  Is it reasoned to trash him before he does it?

The man has not only addressed things that need to be done from a Right perspective, but he has shown that he actually understands the "why" of the issues.  A Leftist can spout pretty good lipservice to Right principles superficially, but they can't provide perspective on why.  Do I need to tell you what moderates can do?  Look at your Republican dance card and think about it.  Trump can.  That separates the man from the 'the boys' IMO.

Will it never end, this exhoneration of John because he served as a POW?  Veterans are not basing their support or lack of it on his days in captivity.  (or are they, but that's another discussion)  GET OVER IT!

No one believes professional politicians anymore when they talk about making America great again.

And why is that? I'd say it's because they say one thing and do another.

No one really believes Trump when he says it either,...

Then who is supporting the man Radcliff?  Are they doing it becaue they don't believe him?  Man you folks are thick!

...but at least he doesn’t have the stink of years of failure at the task on him.

Ya think?

These guys are experts at the back handed insult.

If anyone other than Trump were doing what he is now, a lot of Trump detractors would be jumping up and down with joy.

They don't like him, so they aren't willing to accept he may be the real deal.

Give the man a chance.  Don't join this writer in delivering back-handed insults constantly.

Wait until he screws up.  Then address what he has done that is wrong.

Just heard from a man who owns a convenience store and gas station, that he was a 13B. He’s about 30 years of age and said that 13B was infantry.

Oops. No-go. One of many fakes that I’ve heard bragging over the past couple of years.

13B is artillery right. Forward Observer is 13F. I think they can earn an EIB, but nto a CIB, but they can earn a CAB. They are the artillery guy with an infantry unit that calls in the big guns.

I was a 12B—13 weeks OSUT, total control for the duration except for a day and a half between the two phases. After graduating and going home, no one recognized me back at the university. Did well in classes after returning late for the semester.

But when some of the instructors realized who I was, they weren’t happy with the change. One of those instructors was the NOW president in that state. The chairman of the department later died from AIDs. It didn’t help that one of my buddies (prior Marine small arms in our home unit there) going through ROTC would see me across a distance on campus and yell, “trained killer!” ;-) He meant well.

Oh, well. A degree is not a requirement for living. Should have gone regular, but very few of us were regulars then (not many regular slots). Did six years in the Guard, and ETS’d after the unit went too lax (incoming NCOs from other MOSs and branches).

Tried a construction unit for a year in supply. It was too different. Couldn’t believe how civilian-like it was (honorable discharge). I run across one (or the other) of two other former 12Bs once in a great while, and we relate well with each other on the topic. Anyone else...well, there’s a communication gap.

Has McCain ever passed an open mike that he didn’t run to in order to spout his nonsense? Uninvited, he even suspended his Presidential bid to stick his nose where it didn’t belong....

He made a fool of himself and killed off any chance to be CIC......gave us Obama, and proved himself to be an old fool.......

Luckily he had Palin around to keep his bid from being a total rout by the Dems........and what did he do? Stabbed her in the back after the election.....

McCain, Nichol Wallace, and Steve Schultz and all go where such un-ethical/backstabbing people go...and I’ll cheer as they pass by!
