Our local Denny’s closed. They didn’t reach the fight quota

Depends on where you were located. Some around Pittsburgh became Eat n' Park restaurants (which used to be Big Boy).

chiggers?

For some reason, my yard is infested with them this summer (the real kind) I seem to be immune to them but my wife can’t even walk through the yard without them tearing into her ankles and legs.

An interesting story... I was born and raised in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Most of the Mayors elected in Chicago were from the southside neighborhood of Bridgeport. It was known that the senior Mayor Richard J. Daley, who continued to live in the Bridgeport neighborhood after his election, put the word out that Blacks will not be living in and shopping in Bridgeport. He knew that where low income Blacks go, trouble and crime follows. And so no Blacks moved into Bridgeport, or were seen shopping at the stores in the business district of Bridgeport. Fast forward to today. After the late Mayor Richard J. Daley passed away, his son Richard M. Daley eventually ran for Mayor and won. When he and his family moved out of the Bridgeport neighborhood, things began to change. Today, Blacks live and shop in Bridgeport. Blacks are responsible for the drug dealing, thefts, assaults, bank hold-ups, gang activity, as are the illegals who moved into the neighborhood, and brought with them the Latin Kings, a drug/thug gang of nasty a-holes. Many of the once great stores in the business district are boarded up, and it's not safe to be out in the area after 6pm. Now these Black thugs are bold and are doing street hold-ups and drive by shootings that involved deaths..to the bad guys. No loss there. There are frequent calls to the cops of “shots fired.” In short, it's the old West..shabby, lawless and unsafe. Low life Blacks live by a different culture and moral code, and the same can be said of the illegals to a certain degree. Neither group wants to assimilate with the established CITIZENS in the neighborhood. So it's good-bye to Bridgeport, the home of my Lithuanian grandparents who emigrated to the USA and Bridgeport in 1893, and to the wonderful memories of living there in the 40s and 50s.

When I was a smaller kid in the 50s the
theme of Sambo’s as depicted on restaurant
wall murals was a story about Sambo, a little
black kid in Africa who was chased around a
palm tree by a tiger. They ran so fast that
the tiger was churned into butter and Sambo
put the butter on his hotcakes or something
like that. Later, likely due to the racial
situation at the time the restaurant Sambo was
transformed into an East Indian kid. Imagine
that. They couldn’t insult black people anymore
so they switched to East Indians. I guess at the
time there wasn’t enough Indian immigrants to form
a protest group. Think I will Google the story of
Sambo to find out what really maybe happened.

I remember Sambo’s. They had paintings for kids across the walls. It was like the restaurant version of “The Jungle Book,” but focused on breakfast.

I have the children’s picture book, copyright 1961. It’s about a kid in India, his mom is named Black Mumbo and his dad Black Jumbo. No tigers in Africa, either.
