RNC: Knock off the name calling
WMUR.com ^ | 07/26/2015 | Brian Stelter CNN

(CNN) —The Republican National Committee has a message for candidates like Donald Trump: No more name-calling.

That's what the party's chief strategist and communications director Sean Spicer said on CNN's "Reliable Sources" on Sunday.

"I understand it's going to be the nature of any primary for folks to discuss the differences between themselves on policy issues, and I think that's fine," Spicer said. "The name calling, however, needs to stop."

Spicer added: "We have got to remember what Ronald Reagan taught us, his 11th commandment, 'Thou shall not speak ill of another Republican.'"

Spicer didn't point his comments directly at Trump or any other candidate, but it's Trump who has been receiving the most attention for insulting his rivals in recent weeks.

Did I express myself poorly again?

Naw, it's me. I think my higher logic circuits have been fried from working outside. Been in the sun all day, every day, for the last few weeks.

We're gonna close the shop next Wednesday and get in some shooting time down at the Seagoville range. Can't wait to try out my new AR.

The Rockefeller Republicans tried to shove Gerald Ford onto the VP slot as a “co-president”, with Kissinger as SOS, but Reagan rejected it and stood his ground. That was when they compromised on GHW Bush

That's close to the way I heard it. It was The Great One himself, who worked 1976 and 1980 who related the story that Ronaldus Maximus *did* ask Ford if he wanted to be VP but the old RINO had un-Constitutional conditions demanding power-sharing. Reagan wisely dropped the idea and went with the runner-up Bush41.

Wikipedia kind of falls in between ...

After securing the Republican nomination in 1980, Ronald Reagan considered his former rival Ford as a potential vice-presidential running mate, but negotiations between the Reagan and Ford camps at the Republican National Convention were unsuccessful. Ford conditioned his acceptance on Reagan's agreement to an unprecedented "co-presidency",[151] giving Ford the power to control key executive branch appointments (such as Kissinger as Secretary of State and Alan Greenspan as Treasury Secretary). After rejecting these terms, Reagan offered the vice-presidential nomination instead to George H.W. Bush.[152]

They use the word "considered", but the rest of it kind of implies he *did* ask him. I suspect the truth is somewhere in between, perhaps the Rockefeller RINOs first went to Reagan and said 'PLEASE balance the ticket with an ideological weenie' ( as opposed to geographic balance ). LOL.

NB: 'The Great One' is of course Mark Levin. I pinged him on this in case he has time to help us out ... To Mark, if I remember your broadcast incorrectly I apologize profusely!

All Trump asked of the RNC was that it be "fair" to him and his campaign, nothing more.

This doesn't look like "fair" to me when the RNC deliberately doesn't acknowledge that one of the "name-callers" (meaning Trump, of course) was just RECIPROCATING IN KIND to the original vindictive name-callers (namely McCain, Linseed, Perry, etal).

I hope not ONE Republican/Conservative Freeper contributes to the national GOP...why feed the hand that's biting/destroying us?

Of course, Mark would have been there (unlike me, who was watching it on TV) and I would defer to him. I’m sure Reagan was an astute observer of the political landscape and knew, like it or not, he had to deal with the Rockefeller wing. OTOH, I’d always thought that the GOPe foolishly thought they could steamroll Reagan and pushed too hard, at which point he pushed back even harder and the deal fell through.

The rest of the “Eleventh Cammandment” story:

The personal attacks against me [Reagan] during the primary finally became so heavy that the state Republican chairman, Gaylord Parkinson, postulated what he called the Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican. It's a rule I followed during that campaign and have ever since.

The goal was to prevent a repetition of the liberal Republican assault on Barry Goldwater, attacks which contributed to Goldwater's defeat in the 1964 presidential election.

East Coast Republicans like Nelson Rockefeller labeled Goldwater an “extremist” for his conservative positions and declared him unfit to hold office. Fellow Republican candidate for Governor George Christopher and California's liberal Republicans were leveling similar attacks on Reagan. Hoping to prevent a split in the Republican Party, Parkinson used the phrase as common ground.

Party liberals eventually followed Parkinson's advice.

RNC is not “republican” - THAT’S the problem!

The party is in its death throes.

We're all forgetting the very first pejorative term in this battle, "clown". Trump was called a clown by the knowitall class several times when he first began speaking out.

I notice the clown talk just went away, almost immediately, once he galvanized the public at large, and not just white male working-class conservatives. Funny how that works.
