On Sunday, Donald Trump Showed Why His Campaign Is Doomed
The Fiscal Times ^ | July 26, 2015 | Rob Garver

For the past six weeks, an overarching concern for the Republican Party has been the impact that Donald Trump might have on the GOP primary election – particularly the damage he could do on the debate stage by turning an already unmanageable 10-candidate forum into a full-on circus.

On Sunday, though, Trump himself gave one of the clearest examples yet of why his candidacy is doomed to fail, and why, if handled properly, the debate stage could be his Waterloo.

Trump has staked much of his campaign on his promise to solve what many of his supporters see as a major immigration crisis. As anyone serious about the issue of illegal immigration recognizes, there are at least 11 million undocumented workers in the U.S. right now, and rounding them up for deportation is not a viable option.

Tapper asked Trump to expand on his policy beyond building a wall on the border. The host may have been hoping for a considered reply revealing Trump’s detailed thinking on immigration.

Trump called in to CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday morning to speak with host Jake Tapper.

Much of the appearance was, in fact, more of a Trumpian soliloquy, which appears to be his favorite form of expression, than an interview. However, when Tapper was eventually able to interrupt him and press for some policy specifics, the cracks in Trump’s façade quickly became evident.

Furthermore, break that 11 million down state by state, city by city, and suddenly you find manageable numbers that local authorities can deal with; with some supplemental manpower where needed.

No candidate has to have “policy specifics” at this point LOL!

Exactly!

I might add, why isn't the press demanding policy specifics from the rest of the candidates? Just Trump, huh?

Phhhht. These chumps are so transparent, you could use 'em for window glass.

Writing Trump’s political obituary is so LAST WEEK. The country has moved away from that and now accepts that he’s not going anywhere.

Might do ya some good to get out more often. Read the comments sections at other sites to get a feel for what the people think of Trump. Most places I've checked, it's about 10 to 1 pro-Trump.

People all over this country are sick and tired of the business-as-usual pukes in Washington, and the left liberal destructo-thon going on. They want an outsider who's willing to take a sledge hammer to the socialist edifice in DC and break it to pieces. That's Trump in a nutshell.

"Going nowhere"? The numbers say differently, my friend.

I’m with you - bad choice of words on my part.

When I said “not going anywhere”, what I meant is that he is not leaving the Republican Primary process, at least at this point, and almost certainly is not going to slink away, even if somehow removed from the Republican Party. He’ll still be around, running Third Party, if necessary.

In other words, “he’s not going away”, which is what I should have said.

Just to add something - I was worried about him last Saturday (July 18), because of his McCain comment, but then I saw what you saw - people were HAPPY he called out McCain, finally. At that point, on Sunday, I knew that Trump had gotten through it, and is not going away.

"The next step would be to get Trump to lay out criteria for who gets to stay and how many of them it would apply to…"

Uh huh. Let's get that cart WAY out in front of the horse.

Lock down the border first. PERIOD. End of paragraph and page. Just like AZ SB1070, this sort of serious enforcement measure will cause a mass self deportation.

Oh man, I'm sorry. I misread you completely. It's probably not your fault. I misread someone else's comment to me just ten minutes ago. I probably did the same to your comment.

Sheesh...looks like I ain't firing on all eight cylinders today. Think I'll join the peanut gallery and just read awhile :-0

Thanks.

Great minds surely think alike. I felt the same way after the McCain comments, and wondered if this was his big 'gotcha' moment, but it wasn't.

When I saw the post-McCain comment poll numbers, I knew right then, that he's really connected with the people on a very deep level. Deeper than I suspected.

I'm pretty sure the press and the political establishment were shocked into disbelief and abject butthurt about that .. LOL

They SO want this man to go away. He's giving them more grief than Sarah Palin!

I bet you anything Trump, having $10 Billion, is digging up all the dirt he can on Hillary and will release it when he is the nominee, or give the info to Cruz when he (Cruz) becomes the nominee, to sink Hillary.

The "option" may not be viable, but if we don't get them out the republic isn't "viable" either. "Rounding them up" may not work, but there is a way to get them out in a heartbeat.

The Constitutional option is to call up and deputize the national militia, by definition every adult male between the ages of 18-45. Put up a $5,000 bounty on any illegal within US borders with a minimum $25,000 penalty for false arrest and imprisonment. Put up a web page on how to make a legal arrest with references to all the appropriate case law. Enforce strict penalties for anyone harassing or detaining anyone here legally.

There would be a traffic jam at the border, for months.

I’m not one to defend Trump, but the answers he gave are exactly what you would see in a debate, especially when you take the next few seconds to attack someone else on the stage or Obama or Hillary on the issue. Heck with 352,215 candidates on the stage you’ll only get like .5 seconds to answer anyhow, so Trump’s statements here might be too long winded!

Yes, like Walker’s “Unintimidated” which demonstrates he can go up against nastiness of the basest sort and still implement his policies.

I would like to get my hands on Cruz’s book as well.

First we seal the border. Round up all the criminal element and deport them. Any in U.S. Prisons deport as well. Subversive la Raza members, deport. Review remaining on merit system. Minors with parents back in native land must be returned.

“0bama and Hillary are called “forward thinking” and “nuanced” in the same circumstances.”

Exactly, and more Newspeak, if you can stand it ;) ...Democrats cannot ever tell a lie, rather their “thinking has evolved” since three years ago, or whenever. ;)
