On July 24, the day after John Russell Houser allegedly used a handgun to kill two people in Lafayette, Louisiana, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley called on Congress to ban “the sale of assault weapons” and “[establish] a national gun registry.”

He also said it is time to “[increase] inspections” on gun shops and mandate that gun owners lock up their guns in their homes.

Even Canada junked their national gun registry after it cost billions and didn’t solve or prevent a single crime.

Cost doesn't matter and the purpose is not to solve crime, it is to confiscate.

With a national registry, after the Social Security Administration puts your name on the NICS prohibited persons list because you asked for help with your checkbook, they can then go to your door and ask for all of your weapons by make and serial number.

The NICS system failed to detect that he lied, so the government is the cause of the failure. Further, when valid NICS denials occurs, the government never follows up. It is a waste of money. Pointless harassment. Real criminals aren't buying firearms where NICS would catch them anyway.
