SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) - A freak July cold front brought snow to the Northern Rockies on Monday in a rare weather event that set record-low daytime temperatures across Idaho and could see overnight readings at or near freezing in parts of the region, meteorologists said.
The combination of moisture and cold air from Alaska and Canada was expected to settle over Idaho, Montana and Wyoming through Tuesday in a pattern rarely seen in those states before late August or September, forecasters with the National Weather Service said.
More than an inch of snow was reported on Monday at the renowned ski resort of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and in the mountains of western Montana and central Idaho near Salmon, where local farmers scrambled to cover crops and potentially run sprinklers to prevent frost damage.

Yeah but global warming marches on.
Lake Superior could turn into a year-round ice cube, but global warming would still be marching on.
Oh please. I’ve been snowed on in the Uintahs in summer numerous times over the last 25 years. There is nothing rare about summer snow in the Rockies. Maybe not usual but not rare.
It was something when the cold front blew through my Montana home yesterday (North of Yellowstone Park).
We did not get snow but lot’s of hail and wind. Broke out the snow shovel to clear the hail out of the door ways - otherwise if a door was to be opened the floor would be covered with little balls of ice.
Mid 80’s tomorrow!
Summer in Montana - wonderful!
4th July Leadville, Colorado .2 feet of snow..
Yeah, I was thinkin’ “rare” was NOT the right word to use too. When I went in for surgery a couple of years ago in June, when Mrs. rktman was headed down the next morning to see me she drove through snow flurries here in Reno. Supposedly there isn’t any month (over time) that it hasn’t snowed up at the lake. Unusual, yes. Rare, no.
LOL! Yup. Had a hail storm about a week ago here in my neighborhood in Reno and left it piled up pretty good. Not enough to shovel but the angle it was coming in at from south to north was over 45deg and we gotta replace every screen on the south side of the house. It shredded them.
I've camped up around Mirror Lake in early July, and woke up to snow and an ice-covered tent! You do not want to be camping in those parts unprepared...in any time of year!
Did you stay warm?
Dark Winter
That last storm you spoke of a couple weeks back dropped about two inches deep of gumball-sized hail on my property. Sorry to hear about your window coverings.
I don't care how hot the rest of the nation is in July, in Reno/Tahoe you can expect crazy weather with zero warning. I carry 'just in case' cold weather gear in my truck all year round.
Get pretty used to hearing the National Weather Service alert klaxon going off on phone/TV/radio on a regular basis during Northern NV summers, I tell you:
"AAAACCCKK! AAAACCCKK! AAAACCCKK! BEEEOOOOOOOOP! The National Weather Service has issued flash flood and hail warnings for the following areas: Verdi, Galena..."
Just a fact of life here. I bet the Donner Party thought it was just lovely weather right up until it wasn't.
damn that globull varming..
LOL! Yup. I got stuff in the truck year round “just in case” cause the case may happen. We were just backing out of the garage when it started and quickly pulled right back in. The street was covered as well as the yard. After is quit we went on our way and there was still plenty of it piled up on the southern sides of everything when we returned about 4 hours later. Still had some the next morning. Wait 5 minutes and it’ll change. Natures air conditioner.

It has to. Globull warming has to be the explanation for any weather event otherwise it falls apart for the lie it is.
So, it’s July 28 - 38 days past the summer solstice - is this the first snowstorm of the 2015-2016 winter?
Or the last one of the 2014-2015 winter?
Early fall followed by “Native American” summer? Or is it “indiginous inhabitants”
Does this portend entry of Squaw Warren into the Dem race?
