The controversy surrounding Planned Parenthood is escalating on Capitol Hill as Senate Republicans vowed Tuesday to vote to cut off federal funds for the organization as early as next week and keep campaigning on the issue this fall.
After anti-abortion activists on Tuesday released a new video showing representatives from Planned Parenthood talking about fetal tissue sales, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) assigned a trio of senators to come up with a plan to defund the abortion rights group. Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) are trying to hash out a deal about how exactly to move forward on a proposal.
Although the vote is all but certain to fail, given strong Democratic support for the organization, Republicans feel they have a winning political issue. Planned Parenthood has come under fire after the anti-abortion activists released three videos based on secret recordings that all included discussions of selling fetal tissue. And the leader of the anti-abortion group behind the secret tapes has said it has thousands of hours of additional recordings.

Show vote.
Symbolic crap for the turtle man!
Of course it will, it's not like Republicrats are actually pro-life in anything but campaign ads.
He wants to defund Planned Parenthood pronto, but balks at banning Odungocare. HIPPO crit!
I’ve still got my eyes on him. Remember he was better than what Kentucky had as far as a Democrat. She would have kissed PP’s butt all during this mess.
I don’t think McConnell has done anything different since the last election than Harry Reid would have done.
How many times will people repeat the great GOP lie? She wouldn’t be leading the House! She would have been a junior member with no political power.
The GOP is worse than the democrats—they are your friends to your face with lies on their lips and murder in their heart and they are inside the fence. Reelecting the traitorous turtle and his GOP brethren is the reason that Obama has been able to accomplish everything—even after his party was trounced! The turtle is only making a pretense, as usual, but ultimately his shell will not protect him from God’s judgment.
GOP delenda est.
Are we to believe that MM is *actually* trying to make it happen or is this just theater as usual?
If he waits until he’s confronted, caught in a lie, and embarrassed, to do the right thing, it just shows how easy he is to manipulate.
I don’t trust the Turtle as far as I can throw him..... He nothing more than a snake with a hard shell...........
As reported on Townhall this morning, McConnell may be moving towards fast-tracking a standalone bill for defunding Planned Parenthood. The problem is that McConnell is a master of the parliamentary head-fake. In this case, he is trading a 51 vote threshold for an amendment to pass, for a 60 vote threshold for cloture on a standalone bill.
Once again, McConnell is manufacturing an empty gesture that allows him to say he voted against Planned Parenthood without actually having changed the status quo.
That's why Paul must succeed in getting this passed as an amendment on a "must have" bill.

There’s two sides the story. I’m not trying to defend Senator McConnell, but I don’t think it’s as simple as some think. Whether we agree with it or not, McConnell has made it clear that he will not allow the government to be shut down again. If the transportation bill was amended to add the ban on Planned Infanticide (Parenthood) funding, President Obama would have certainly vetoed it, and that would have led to another possible shutdown.
McConnell may very well oppose Planned Parenthood, but he cannot do anything about it so long as he’s promised the government will not be shut down. That ties his hands. I think you’re right that this is a symbolic vote so that he can say he tried. He’s not stupid. He has to know it will fail, but he also has to know that nothing will get past the president’s veto regardless.
If the Republican elites truly oppose Obama (and that’s a very big IF these days), they have very little power so long as they refuse to use their biggest weapon—the power of the purse. A promise to avoid another government shutdown at all costs basically hands the minority party and their president complete veto power over all legislation.
And of all the promises he has made (and broken) why is this the one he decides to keep? And to whom is he keeping it?
Truth is he agrees with large portion of the lib agenda or at minimum the elite power structure and hides behind “show votes” to keep status quo. Pretty simple.....
I am so damn sick of this!! They're a majority, and if they can't figure out how to WIN, they're worse than useless. It isn't a "political issue", it's our soul as a nation.
We have proof positive that the US Senate is okay with the slaughter of the pre-born for profit, since instead of outrage we're getting committees and election strategies. How to stop it? A declaration that NOTHING will pass either the HOR or US Senate that includes even one penny of funding for Planned Parenthood.
I don’t know what goes through Mitch McConnell’s head. Yours is certainly one possible explanation for his actions. Another is what I wrote.
If the GOPe is unwilling to confront President Obama and shut down government, they are powerless. All they can do is make symbolic votes on things that will never pass or pass things that Obama supports.
I don’t think it really matters what McConnell thinks so long as he’s not willing to fight Obama. Whatever his motives, he’s neutered the GOP by promising to never shut down the government.
Plus, in addition to an action plan to defund, McTurtle walks the plank and resigns.
