Canada is in recession.
Canadian GDP unexpectedly fell 0.2% in May. This was worse than the 0.0% expected by economists.
"The economy has contracted in 6 out of the last 7 months," BNP's Derek Lindsay noted.
The resource rich economy has felt the crushing pain of falling commodity prices as global demand for raw materials has decelerated.
And relief doesn't seem to be coming any time soon.
"We continue to see falling commodities prices weighing heavily on the economy, with mining, utilities, and manufacturing presenting biggest drags on the goods side," Lindsay said.
And this probably means more easy monetary policy.

They need to elect a carload of liberals. That’ll fix it.
The resource-rich economy has felt the crushing pain of falling commodity prices as global demand for raw materials has decelerated. This lie seems to be pushing for the solution to be sell them to Iran. Not that I would tend to believe Banque Nationale du Paris these days anyway.
They are obviously not using Obamanomics up there................or maybe they are..............
Economic philosophy question: Is it REALLY a recession if a nation dependent on natural-resources extraction is getting paid less for the goods it extracts?
GDP really measures cumulative income. If the hit to income is that a few energy companies are making less profit temporarily, does that have the same meaning as when companies across the board are having to lay off workers by the thousands because there is less work for them to do?
Is the contraction in income by these companies rippling through the Canadian economy?
Looks like they’re going to wind up with the spawn of Pierre Trudeau in charge.
RE: They are obviously not using Obamanomics up there................or maybe they are..............
The Canadian Healthcare systems is what Obamacare tries to morph to become.
Dispatching PM Harper is high on the Soros To-Do List.
Looks like things are progressing nicely.
Case in point: During the American recession in 2007-2009, the Norwegian GDP contracted 5%, weighed down by declining oil revenue when the price of oil slumped. But unemployment rate in 2009 was 3.2%, down from 4.6% in 2006. It briefly rose as high as 3.7 in 2010, but averaged about 3.2% between 2008 and 2012. Wages steadily grew at a healthy rate.
Is that a recession?
Believe me with the Press in Canada, one person losing a job is a “Recession” with Harper as PM.
Canada has 30M+ people.
The US has 300M+ people.
Ain’t gonna work..............
A recession is when your neighbor loses his job.
A depression is when you lose YOUR job.
And recovery is when OBAMA loses his................Ronald Reagan redux...............
They forgot: Seasonally adjust, recession gone
Actually, I don't think that is the case. Yes, Obamacare is a form of socialized medicine, but Obamacare is ridiculously far more complicated. I don't know many pages Canada's healthcare bill had, but I doubt it was even close to the 20,000 pages of regulations that the Obamacare bill contained.
That’s right. They need some of Bambi’s statistician’s to fix it!
All they need is THIS book..............I have a copy from the late 40's and it's still in print!.................
If the nation's economy is so heavily-dependent on the natural resources sector that its contraction causes the national income growth to go negative, then, yes, I'd say it's a recession.
That said, GDP is a terrible, stupid, awful way to measure a national economy.
“the spawn of Pierre Trudeau in charge.”
Not going to happen. The more Trudeau jr. talks the farther in he shoves his foot.
The Shining Pony has dropped in the polls since January , when the LPC was polling 34.3% and is currently at 26.1%.
In June Harper’s CPC hit a low of 28.4% , currently trending up at 31.6 %.

I hope you’re right.
Interesting... the unemployment rate in liberal Quebec shot up last month, but is down MOSTLY everywhere else. (Only other significant rise was New Brunswick.)
