Wage Growth Weak Despite Tightening Jobs Market

Compensation costs, which include wages and benefits such as health care coverage, for civilian workers barely moved during the second quarter, rising just 0.2% on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to a report released Friday by the Department of Labor. It was the weakest increase since 1982.

Wages and salaries, which make up about 70% of compensation costs, were also little changed at 0.2%, and benefits, which make up the remaining 30% of compensation, rose even less at 0.1%, the government said.

In another troubling long-term trend, compensation costs for civilian workers have leveled off in 2015 from the prior year, increasing 2% for the 12-month period ending June 2015, unchanged from the 12-month period ending June 2014.

The weak gain in employee compensation is quite surprising given the many labor market readings suggest the labor market is tightening,” said Kathy Bostjancic, an economist with Oxford Economics.

This is nonsense. We have 40 million plus out of work. Pray tell, WHAT tightening jobs marekt?

Actually, that trend goes back to the early 90s.

Wages have been flat for a long long time.

They try to sell us on the idea interest rates are very low, so it doesn't matter. The goods and services we need continue to cost more, so we have less buying power, effectively earning less.

IMO it goes back longer than that.

No mention in this article that 100% of new jobs appear to have gone to immigrants, legal and illegal.

Could it be the flood of illegal immigrants that are willing to work for nothing and not paying any taxes that has something to do with it?

Absolutely right; when my employer tightened its belt, I tightened mine in terms of hours worked - it was the only way to get a meaningful “raise” (driving up my hourly salary). If I used to get paid twenty potatoes per hour, I could either watch it fall to 17 by leaving things unchanged or eke out 22 by working the minimum hours (outlined when I was hired years ago).

This admin continues to pile lie upon lies. Obama damn sure cannot dazzle anyone with his intelligence so all we get is his attempts to baffle us with more BS.

They aren’t here to work; they are being trafficked here as consumers. I left work early today and stopped at a nearby K-Mart; they had salsa playing on the speakers and almost all of the shoppers were Hispanic (not working - shopping). According to Pelosi, this is good for the economy.

Obama and his pals have made certain no zip code has over 50% Caucasian. Obama has racial bean counters in every Gov agency. Cities have to have X amount of low income housing, banks must make X % of loans to blacks etc.
