Trump: What You Don't See Is What You Will Get
The American Thinker ^ | August 5, 2016 | Gene Schwimmer

Posted on 08/05/2015 12:02:43 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

".......This writer will not attempt to dissuade the Trump-o-philes from their ardor. If one’s idea of a Joe-Six-pack-cares-about-guys-like-me-populist is an arrogant brat in grownup clothing, who pulled himself up by the multimillion-dollar bootstraps he received and ultimately inherited from his daddy, a guy who builds luxury apartments that, one suspects, few of his supporters could ever dream of affording, then, by all means, vote for the guy.

What this writer can do is show Trump’s supporters – and make it impossible for them to say, should this life-imitates-Elmer-Gantry snake oil salesman become president, that they didn’t know – what they, and the United States of America, would be getting.

First and most important, Donald Trump is not a Republican. Nor is he a Democrat. Donald Trump is a businessman and an opportunist. And would be, if his supporters get their way, the first Republican president who, at least as of April 26, 2011, has given most of his financial support to Democrats:

The real estate mogul and “Celebrity Apprentice” host has made more than $1.3 million in donations over the years to candidates nationwide, with 54 percent of the money going to Democrats, according to a Washington Post analysis of state and federal disclosure records.

Does that sound like someone committed to Republican values, let alone conservatives values? Not exactly the Koch Brothers, especially when one looks at just who some of these recipients of Trump largess were, such stalwart Republicans as:

Harry Reid
Rahm Rmanuel
John F. Kerry
Charlie Rangel
Chuck Schumer
Teddy Kennedy
Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton? Well, one hopes that he will refrain from contributing to Clinton 2016 if and when he finds himself running against her. On the other hand, don’t assume that he won’t. Could be bad for business, post-election, if Hillary wins...................."

I think he’s going to be super vetted. We’ve strayed from our capitalistic roots. We have more people on the dole, more taxes, high energy costs, weakened military, debt, etc etc. I want someone, like Reagan, who goes in THIS TIME and cuts out gov’t waste. These career politicians have no clue how to do that.

Why do we need depts. of Energy, education, labor, epa, etc etc. Why are we in the AMTRAK business? Why not privatize the USPS. Disband the IRS. Cut corporate taxes, and income taxes. Make it so it’s cheaper to make things here.

I’ve lost total respect or confidence in our politicians. This debate on planned parenthood is a no-brainer.

Lastly, who give’s a rat’s about who he’s contributed money to? I’m from Chicago. Trump gave money to Emmanuel. Who was he supposed to give the money to? The two racist minority candidates?

Trump says he want SArah in his cabinet, intelligent people, TRey Gowdy as AG? SCOTUS like Thomas and Scalia?

WHat have you heard about him that you don’t like? Forget his past.

I DARE MR RICH BLOWHARD TO COME OUT WITH THIS POSITION

In “countries such as Mexico where an American citizen decides to be a “legal” emigree never mind being a seasonal visitor.

They are denied voting privledges. Ownership of land in their own name, and selected access to government services. Worse if entering that country illegaly. Will face steep fines and jail time before getting kicked out. Beside being denied use of government services, including; income and energy subsistance including food stamps, or bringing in family members .

When Trump announces we should not allow any such full citizenship privledges to illegals who are from countries such as Mexico that deny to a legal American immigrant deny their citizenship privledges.

That those “Dreamers” who were given this unconstitutional bypassed federal laws treatment entrance by INS who miss their INS hearing be deported fortwith and denied re-entry. also apply to any illegal convicted of a felony.

And announces he supports reciprocal citizenship requirements. Then gets accused of racism . I’ll believe in him then, as he *”eats his cracker” then asks God for forgiveness./s...

*from statements he made about the Orthodox and catholic tradition of receiving communion at a Presbyterian conference which has receieved little attention.

Actually, according to most polls, his negatives are declining rapidly over the past few cycles. I suspect that will continue to happen as most realize, or like some - start to deal with, the fact that Trump is not going away anytime soon.

I find it curious that all these writers who are so concerned about the “submerged” nature of the Donald seem so inured to the “submerged” nature of the GOPe - the proven FACT that they campaign as (moderate) conservatives, yet govern as (slightly moderated) liberals.

I am not a Trump supporter. But I still find him a better choice than any of the establishment GOP picks.

My choice at this point: Cruz.

There are maybe 1 or 2 others I will consider supporting. The idea that not supporting X is supporting Y is a non-starter. It presupposes that X will have different results than Y.

I read it.

Like it or not, this race and election is now Trump's to lose. He may not handle the pressure, or he may simply do what Gingrich did last time and flame out. Any number of things could come and take him out, but make no mistake, it is now his and his alone to lose.

He has galvanized a huge and diverse group of voters, the shut the border crowd, the American jobs crowd (lots of Reagan democrats), the anti-Planned Parenthood groups, the flag wavers, those who hate the media, those who hate the GOPE, and more.

He has tapped into a huge vein of desire to return to American greatness.

The author did a poor, and snarky job, making points he could have made better. Very smarmy and whiny IMHO. I'm NOT a Trump supporter, but the one thing the supporters of the two A grade candidates the GOP has are missing is as follows: IF the Donald flames out, he has paved the way for one of them to win with the voters he has excited. I, for one, like what he has done to the campaign, and hope he continues to excite the voters he has galvanized, especially if he flames out.

Would you still support Trump if it was revealed that he had illegal mob ties in Atlantic City where he built his fortune?

Guess what?...

After super tuesday, most of the Republican candidates will have dropped out of the race. Cruz, Walker and Paul will have spent most of their money and will be sitting at 10% of the delegates each. Yeb! will still have $100M in the bank and will be at 25% of the delegates. Trump will be at 35% of the delegates.

All of a sudden there will be news story after news story after news story hammering Trump. They will include allegations of criminal activity, mistreatment of women, bad behavior of his children, infidelity, shady business practices, etc...

It will be a non-stop pile on by all media outlets. You think what they did to a small town mayor and Governor of Alaska was bad? Wait till you see what they do to a billionaire playboy with 40 years of backroom deals to scrutinize.

His support will erode. It will become a four way battle for the rest of the delegates.

Yeb! and his people will be the ones feeding the info to the news agencies and he will now be in the drivers seat. If Trump somehow survives the primary he will be decimated in the general.

You will have helped cause it by supporting Trump despite knowing his entire campaign is built on media hype which can change in an instant.

When all of these revelations come out next year just remember, someone new all of the stuff all along and didn’t bring it up for a reason.

Where did I say I support Trump? I didn't, I just responded to a strawman argument.

“They will include allegations of criminal activity, mistreatment of women, bad behavior of his children, infidelity, shady business practices, etc...”

In case you have been in a coma all of that and more has already been tried and failed.

From the article:

"Their names are Scott Walker, Reince Priebus and Paul Ryan..."

"They are not only friends but political soul mates. They share a worldview, a set of conservative values..."

This is what concerns me about Walker.

Like it or not, this race and election is now Trump's to lose.

I do think that Cruz and Walker would make excellent candidates, would make excellent presidents, and already are excellent role models.

That does not change the point that Trump quintuples Cruz's poll numbers and triples Walker's numbers. So, your point is unarguable. Trump is the leader. Also, like you say Trump may flame out.

Trump seemed to enter the race at just the moment Cruz and Walker were having the 'stupid' moments. Cruz was loudly proclaiming we need more immigration, especially H1B immigration and was siding with the idiot Corker initiative to vote on an Iran bill and was backing TPA despite his staff telling him McConnell was lying to his face.

On the Walker front, he picked just that time to change his stance on the gay marriage issue being over due to scotus rulings, on a refinement of his legal/illegal immigration position, and on a refinement of his Obamacare policies. Bad timing on his part, and there are still those who question his legal immigration stance, same as they do with Cruz.

So, Trump has taken support from many candidates, but he's also taken it from Cruz and Walker, my other two best selections. Personally, I don't think Cruz is going to recover unless he launches a huge media c0unter-offensive hail Mary.

I’m probably going to vote for Cruz in the primary. However in light of the complete lack of leadership this country has had since Ronald Reagan, I am more interested right now in electing someone who has leadership qualities and a fervent love of this Country than an ideologue who may agree with me on every point, but who either cannot be elected or who cannot lead.

Of all the current candidates, Cruz most closely represents my views on the issues. However Cruz cannot seem to get any traction at all. Perhaps the debates will show America his mettle, but unfortunately most of the Country will be watching re-runs of Gilligan’s Island rather than paying any attention to the debates. Hence Americans will believe mainly what the 30 minute MSM nightly news tells them rather than bothering to watch a bunch of egomaniacs and idiots argue policy in response to loaded questions from ignorant pundits.

At this point I am leaning toward either Cruz or Trump. I think Trump can win both the nomination and the Presidency. Amazingly the average taxpaying citizen feels more in tune with the multibillionaire Trump than he does with almost any of the elitist good for nothing GOPe surrender monkeys. That is why he has such a commanding lead despite saying a lot of things that would make a liberal pundit go insane with indignation.

I have no doubt that Trump would use his first Supreme Court opening to appoint Ted Cruz. I also have confidence that Sarah Palin will be appointed either Energy Secretary or Defense Secretary or some equally important cabinet level position.

I would guess that he would probably pick Walker as a running mate which would give him an edge in Wisconsin and Iowa.

It’s going to be an interesting political year. I’m hoping Cruz rises to the top of the pack, but if not, then, for no other reason than that he represents a finger in the eye of the Washington Cartel, I will be on board with Trump.

I’m there with you on what you’ve said. It’s going to be extremely hard for Cruz to pull this out after his gaffes, but I prefer his positions everywhere else with the exception of H1B and the anti-constitutional Corker Iran bill. Some day soon I hope he publicly repents of that bill with weeping and gnashing of teeth. Of all constitutional scholars, HE should have been railing 24/7/365 that it was a violation of the Senate treaty power.

However, I’m for anyone kicking the shi_ out of the establishment GOP. If Trump is willing to do that, I’m standing by to loan him steel-toed combat boots.

How can a distinction be made during the general election between Hillary and Jeb Bush?

I agree with your every word, Sharky! Mr. Trump has a *yuge* and diverse following!

I also read the linked column, although I read it yesterday and once was enough!

Mr. Donald Trump is extremely appealing for several reasons. Aside from his personal success and fame, his love for our country is always on display..."Make America Great Again."

Women aren't jealous, most of us love strong men and his billions are attractive, too. He comes across as the ultimate caretaker. Just look at his family and his children by different wives. All are educated, successful, and polite, all get along and all are fine citizens who love their dad.

Men aren't jealous, they would love to be rich and powerful like the Donald! How many men are living vicariously through Mr. Trump right now?

Men and women of all ages, black, white, mixed race, all nationalities, (including legal Mexicans), all religions and all incomes are supporting Mr. Trump! He oozes optimism and confidence, and dependent upon one's age, when he speaks, he comes across as a father, husband, brother or best friend; a regular guy, a reachable guy, which is another reason he's attracting so much support!

Were you surprised when people in one of Luntz's focus groups said that "billionaire Donald Trump was one of us (them)?" I wasn't. That's how he genuinely relates to people. He shares our gripes, our anger, our frustration and our disdain for career politicians. But he is powerful and he will fix it.

Trump is promising to fix illegal immigration by making Mexico pay for the wall we've needed for over 30 years! He's promising to fix our "free trade" imbalance, and has mentioned Carl Ichan as one of his negotiators, relieving "Caroline um, ah, um Kennedy" from her duties in Japan.

Mr. Trump has said that he will create a vast amount of new jobs by bringing manufacturing back to our shores, and he will tear-up that catastrophic deal with Iran.

He'll deal with our Veterans unconscionable medical care and the VA's hospitals. He truly loves our Veterans and our military.

I have come to believe that Mr. Donald Trump is in this race to win the nomination and to then go onto win the presidency.

Mr. Trump doesn't go haphazardly into any pursuit if he doesn't think and believe he will achieve success, and in pursuit of the GOP nomination, he's in it to win, and he's on his own dime.

He has my prayers and likely my vote.

I know for certain that he loves our country.

UGH, the Marxist is on TV trying to sell his Iran deal. Lying his Muslim ass off. Every Senator and Rep. who votes in favor of his and Kerry's sell-out deal will forever bear the title "traitor."
