Which area is closer to Africa—south of our border or southern Europe?

Yes, the boot heel of Italy does come quite near to Africa.

Drifting the topic a bit, it's stunning to see just how far south the bulk of America (the United States) is compared to most of Europe. Looking at a map using Mercator projection (which the oh-so-PC left deems racist, of course), much of populated Northern Europe would be in the Great White North of Canada. Bunch of hosers those Euros are! :)

That's true. I wonder if Europe is continuing to get colder. Haven't looked at a Gulf Stream activity map for some time. A few years ago, it was running very slowly and not carrying the usual warmer temperatures to the U.K.

I'm at over 9,000 feet on the Rockies, but it was much warmer and calmer than usual last winter. Very strange.
