Even most Japanese were glad for the decisive conquest. It meant they did not need to wear themselves out in a grueling battle for the emperor, which they would otherwise willingly do. And unlike most foes, America showed immense mercy afterwards.

I had several uncles that were saved by that move too, and my dad himself was staring to come of enlistment age in 1946 had we blockaded Japan and spent another year doing an invasion, my dad would have been drafted and sent.
