By any objective measure, Thursday night's debate was a trainwreck for Donald Trump. In one night, he refused to rule out a general election bid as an independent if he lost the Republican nomination, praised the Canadian socialized healthcare system, defended past sexist comments, threatened to be mean to popular Fox News host Megyn Kelly, and demonstrated a lack of understanding of important national and international issues. By any law of politics, the Trump bubble should burst after tonight.
But so far, Trump's candidacy has defied the laws of political physics, so it's difficult to predict the extent to which this performance will show up in the polls.

All of this said, none of the non-Trump candidates said or did anything during this case that seriously, irreparably damaged their candidacies. There was no Rick Perry "oops" moment. But unfortunately, the real race for the GOP nomination will be in a holding pattern until Trump collapses in polls and gets demoted to the kiddie table.

Last night was a typical Trump performance. Those who support him got the Trump they wanted. Those who don’t support him got the Trump they expected. He didn’t lose any supporters and he didn’t win any new ones. Of all the candidates I think he’ll see the least impact in the polls.
Trump’s popularity is a product of the sneering, snarky condescension toward “flyover” by the media, entertainment, big business and both political parties. Kiddie table? This author illustrates that perfectly.
The sentiment by voters seems to be: Screw us? No, screw you.

It was during the question where Trump was asked what he would do about the Iranian general who traveled to Russia and he went off on a tangent about how poor Obama’s foreign policy has been that I found myself feeling sorry for him. His appeal has been his non-PC, take-no-prisoners approach in calling out the sham media and sham political complex that we have. But he has no specifics to address the issues. He has bombast. He has charisma. He has confidence. But he has offered no specific answers of any kind (and doesn’t seem to be able to formulate any as of right now).
I love his presence in the race. He is doing necessary work in peeling back the curtain Toto-like and revealing the shallowness of our present leadership and the whoredom of our media complex. But I felt very uncomfortable for him due to his lack of substance which, I believe, will wear thin with many of his current supporters unless he develops his ideas beyond “Believe me, I’ll get Mexico to build the wall.”
Lol. I’m not holding my breath. Imagine me saying, ‘Jeb lost me when he reiterated his ‘act of love’ idiocy.’ How could Jeb lose what he never had?
Btw, Megyn should have consulted Chuck Todd. Even he has figured out that when the media attack Trump, Trump’s poll #s rise. Unless she is a closet Trump fan, her strategy backfired big time.
Megyn Kelly came there last night with the attitude that the evening was all about her. At times, I thought I was watching a debate between her and Donald Trump, with the other candidates there only as spectators.
Cruz didn’t score early when he had chances. His “1st day in office” was fantastic, but gotta stop with “I sponsored this legislation.” Too beltway-ish. Trump, “I’ll make America great” connects much better.
The best one can hope for is that Trump knows how to hire the best people for every position and lets them run their departments. He is not a political genius.
Nothing Trump says or doesn’t say is going to make people suddenly start liking politicians. As a few, very few, pundits have figured out, Trump’s run is a proxy for the seething rage, loathing and disgust people have come to feel for D.C. Politicians have been disliked and distrusted for a long time, but this election sees the tipping point. Too long D.C. has ignored real problems or else ‘fixed’ them by making them incalculably worse. They have treated constituents with disdain. They embody all that is wrong with the USA.
Trump comes along and says, ‘The country is going to hell, but I will make America great again.’
And clueless, low-IQ pundits chortle that he adopted the wrong ‘tone,’ or some other silly nonsense.
Until the so-called journalists and pundits figure out what is driving Trump’s success, we will be forced to endure more condescending twaddle under the guise of analysis. But sooner or later they will get it.
And it will be interesting to see what happens then.
I don't believe Trump was given the opportunity to articulate any thing at all...
We hear the same ol sh## a chicken in every pot, lift everyone up America is great, and when trump starts to vilify stupid politicians who dont know what thier doing, those outside and in that are being allowed to screw America at the expense of its people the panzie a##es cry foul.
Ain't that the truth...We've been hearing exactly the same things in these so called debates for 40 years...
There have been mini versions of Trump over the years in the debates but they couldn't get the traction that Trump has...Probably has a lot to do with the internet...

And I think it's great as well that Trump will not endorse someone just because they are a Republican...It's not about Party...It's about America...

I thought that was his best moment...when he snarled at the idea of “tone” being somehow important in the face of nation-threatening conditions all around us. “We don’t have time for tone.”

The only headlines in the news are that an Iranian scientist has been released to Iran as part of the negotiations...Some, on the side of America pointed out that this was hardly fair since Iran kept the 4 American prisoners...
Megan when posing the question didn't mention a scientist/prisoner...She blurted out the guy's Iranian name...Trump didn't have any idea who she was talking about and neither did I...
Likely there's not another person up there who had a clue who she was talking about, except Ted Cruz of course...Just another 'set-up' for a 'gotcha' on Trump...
