Well, Trump sure seemed like an un-Presidential jerk to me. Hillary will wipe the floor with his bombastic sexist ridiculous self-important me-me-me America-loses crap, and we can all congratulate ourselves again.

Seriously... What has come over “Conservatism?”

WFB wouldn’t give this jackass the time of day. I’ve read his books...

He’s not even a conservative!

Why are we willing to lose for a reality TV actor?

ANSWER ME, FRiends!

We are sick of being served the same old recycled pile of meadow muffins in various disguises as they break down, bits fall off, and they grow ever less appealing by the day. It has become clear that we need a change of direction in this country, and the guy willing to call bull biscuits is Donald Trump. We’re so grateful, that imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, I think he may yet spawn a new hair style fad!

Did you hear the applause he got on PC, from the same people who had moments before booed him?!

Please go try your “lux” somewhere else.

Don’t jargon us to death, please.

“Sexist” just what is that supposed to mean? There are some terms of reproach that do vary by gender. You probably wouldn’t use “oaf” for female either. (Oafette?)

ANSWER ME, FRiends!

Okay. After eight years of Obama many people don't believe the United States will survive a Hillary term. Pick your poison: Iranian nukes, economic armageddon, illegal immigration and changing demographics etc. Now these are conversations that were taking place even before the 2010 mid-terms and the 2012 general election. There has been much fear-mongering that we are in serious decline and that 2016 would be, in the minds of the people, the final battle for the soul of America.

There is a reason why the prepper movement and gun ownership has surged during Obama's presidency. This is a shift that is not restricted to the Glenn Beck types or paranoid conservatives. This is a mentality that has emerged from the general population regardless of political affiliation. Just as the Tea Party was not the exclusive province of FReepers, but a coalition of conservatives, libertarians and the previously non-political.

And as Ted Cruz has laid out these people rose up. They gave Republicans the House in 2010, the Senate in 2014 with the understanding that Obama's agenda would be rolled back. That has not happened. This only solidifies the notion that the political process is no longer a viable option for the advancement of conservative principles.

Look at the progression: propositions overturned by judges, judicial activism at the Supreme Court level. A lawless executive branch. A legislative beholden to entrenched interests. Is it any wonder that people are rejecting the political process as matter of principle?

How many people here speak of second-amendment solutions? I know I have from time to time. To your question as to what has happened to conservatism? Well I will tell you. Unfortunately, conservatism is now in the position that hard core communists found themselves after the collapse of the Soviet Union. They were forced into a position which said, "Well you can't declare communism a defunct political ideology because it hasn't really been correctly implemented anywhere in the world."

We are now in that position of having so say that real conservatism has not been tried. We can all point to Reagan as the patron saint of conservatism but that appeal doesn't address the situation on the ground in 2015. Conservative principles can no longer find fruition in today's society. We can talk about how American is fundamentally a conservative nation and perhaps in some respects it is. But that generic landscape isn't enough to overcome the defects of liberal thought that have infected the population and our institutions of government and have become part of those structures.

Even Ted Cruz the conservative's conservative would make a great President. But that's not even the question. The question is would he make an effective President? That is an entirely different kettle of fish. So in the minds of many here and in the population-at-large it's time to blow up the system. So why not a billionaire who shoots his mouth off?

Ultimately, if you believe that 2016 is the hill to die on, then Trump makes all the sense in the world.
