No, Donald Trump, Single-Payer Health Care Doesn't 'Work Incredibly Well' In Canada & Scotland

Last night in Cleveland, the 17 declared Republican presidential candidates participated in the first official debates of the 2016 election season. Health care policy was a bone of contention. “How can you run for the Republican nomination and be for single-payer health care?” asked former Texas Gov. Rick Perry of Trump. When Fox anchor Bret Baier later asked Trump to defend his position, Trump responded: “As far as single payer, it works in Canada, it works incredibly well in Scotland.” Here’s why Trump is wrong.

The first step to stopping Trump is to stop talking about Trump. Stop reading stories about him. Stop searching on his name

Search on Cruz

Trump is wrong on this. A single payer system will never work no matter how it is modified by Countries like Canada and Scotland. The element of competition is destroyed and that is the only real conservative factor that would keep cost down. The main reason why the former American private health care companies were failing is the Government regulation which allowed greed to infiltrate their companies.

Cruz and Carly, although I’m tired of hearing about Iran. I know most Freepers are buzzed about it, but I’m much more concerned with the Muslims here and what they are doing.

It amazes me how many conservative apologists he has.

But only Trump can get away with saying thing like that.

Ditto with his political campaign contributions and his close association with the Clintons.

Obviously he needs more vetting just like we should have done with BHO in 2008.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least conservatives who should know better and usually do their homework.

Mexico’s government may be more corrupt but that doesn’t require intelligence.

It's a stupid thing to say unless he is more specific. I could understand if he said "The Mexican government is much smarter than our leaders on the issue of immigration". That could be considered true. But the idea that Mexican leaders, in general, are smart is idiotic. They are a quasi socialist crap-hole of a country and have been for decades. Mexico's leaders are most certainly not smart.

"I could understand if he said "The Mexican government is much smarter than our leaders on the issue of immigration"."

Saying "the mexican government is smarter" during a conversation on illegal immigration, isn't the same thing ?

Because we’re supposed to care about electing true conservatives. This site backed Cruz during the Obamacare filibuster. Instead they’re backing someone just like Romney, who supported socialized health care in the past and still thinks it’s a good idea sometimes.

It’s actually more sad than anything.

I, and perhaps you, expect more from conservative minded people. I expect people on the left and “low information voters” to get suckered by anti-intellectual populists. One hopes that my/our own side wouldn’t be so full of people that were equally gullible.

Sadly, it would appear that even learned people on both left and right are equally susceptible to this sort of cult of personality. Even if that personality has a clear record of opposing many of the things they supposedly care about.

Heh, true. If Mexico's government was "smarter" than ours, then (i) why are so many Mexicans desperate enough to risk their lives at the hands of cartel-connected coyotes to come here, and (ii) why are wages so low in Mexico that U.S. companies want to move production facilities there?

Seems the very points Trump makes about Mexico undermine his argument.

If there is anything worse than Obamacare, it would be single payer.

It “works” only for the elites (like Trump) — not for anyone else.

Remember, Obama was caught ona recording saying he’s for single payer, but he knew it would take “15 or 20 years” to get there. Obamacare (AKA Romneycare) is designed to fail so we’ll “have to” implement single payer.

Don Trump and Bernie Sanders on the same page...

His statement about Canada’s healthcare system working well (NOT PAST TENSE MIND YOU) is Trump’s Freudian slip and tells me a lot about what he believes in (regardless of what he said next ).

So, NOPE he’s no conservative.

Beware Trump fans — what you see is NOT what you get.

How much money is inbound from Mexico vs money outbound to Mexico? How many criminals are we encouraging to migrate to Mexico?

No. He says the same thing on trade. He implies over and over that the Mexican government is some savvy group of people. They are most certainly not that.

If you are going to credit the Mexican government with any kind of competence, you better be very specific - and flesh it out with a discussion of the particular policies they’ve enacted which make them so smart in that particular area.

This site backed Cruz during the Obamacare filibuster.

"This site" rarely has shown a definite consensus on any one politician.

I support Cruz. I like that Trump is running interference, taking most of the heat of the print/broadcast media weasels off Cruz...and another politician in particular.
