He also said Mexico’s government was “smarter” than ours. How does one come to that conclusion

The first step to stopping Trump is to stop talking about Trump. Stop reading stories about him. Stop searching on his name

Search on Cruz

Trump is wrong on this. A single payer system will never work no matter how it is modified by Countries like Canada and Scotland. The element of competition is destroyed and that is the only real conservative factor that would keep cost down. The main reason why the former American private health care companies were failing is the Government regulation which allowed greed to infiltrate their companies.

It amazes me how many conservative apologists he has.

But only Trump can get away with saying thing like that.

Ditto with his political campaign contributions and his close association with the Clintons.

Obviously he needs more vetting just like we should have done with BHO in 2008.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least conservatives who should know better and usually do their homework.

If there is anything worse than Obamacare, it would be single payer.

It “works” only for the elites (like Trump) — not for anyone else.

Remember, Obama was caught ona recording saying he’s for single payer, but he knew it would take “15 or 20 years” to get there. Obamacare (AKA Romneycare) is designed to fail so we’ll “have to” implement single payer.

Don Trump and Bernie Sanders on the same page...

His statement about Canada’s healthcare system working well (NOT PAST TENSE MIND YOU) is Trump’s Freudian slip and tells me a lot about what he believes in (regardless of what he said next ).

So, NOPE he’s no conservative.

Beware Trump fans — what you see is NOT what you get.

The Canadian relatives on my mother’s side of the family *all come to the U.S. for their surgeries!*

They can’t get the procedures done as quickly and efficiently in Canada!

Every Canadian I have talked to is happy with their healthcare system. No one in Canada ever goes bankrupt due to serious health problems.

But Canada is small and Scotland even smaller, in comparison to US.

I do not like single payer because it is government run. My ideal system is summarized on my profile page.

In the debate, Trump said he favored private healthcare, with increased insurance competition, and a separate system to pay for indigent care.

Rand Paul and you didn’t listen and are having a hard time.

it works incredibly well in Scotland.

He's talking about the British National Health Service which is the same in Scotland as it is in England Wales and Northern Ireland. It is plagued by massive cost over-runs, months long waiting lists for routine operations such as hernias and "death Panels" for seniors AKA " Liverpool Pathway". He's nuts.

I disagree with one comment in the article, in fact, one of the sub-titles. It is not that the ‘tough’ cases are sent Stateside from Canada, but that those who can AFFORD quick service go Stateside. This does mean that the wait times for us ‘proles’ is slightly less because the wealthy leave the line and go South.

There are advantages and disadvantages for us ‘proles’ who live so close to the US. An advantage is noted above. A disadvantage is the number of doctors and nurses who are educated in Canadian universities at tax payer expense, who leave Canada for the more lucrative US medical market. Smaller towns and cities suffer from a lack of medical practitioners, so often the doctors (and many of the nurses) they get are from off-shore.

The fact that so many Canadian medical practitioners leave, after being educated through tax-payer funded universities, financed by tax payer funded loans and grants, SHOULD be an issue in this election! Because so many new medical grads go South, my tax dollars SUBSIDIZE the US medical business. THAT should not be the case.

AB Health is doing something to alleviate the shortage of doctors in AB. In East Calgary there is a medical centre where immigrant doctors work for six months to a year after they immigrate. It works well for the people of the Province, the doctors and AB Health. It allows people to be treated, it allows the doctors to gain experience in the Canadian system and build a client base for when they open their own offices, and it allows AB Health to monitor how the doctors deal with Canadian patients. I met my doctor through this program. I am quite happy with his service, though some of his front end staff could use improvement. It would be better if we could get more Canadian medical professionals to remain here, though.

Socialized Medicine works great for the healthy people. Not so much for those who need care. I worked in the British NHS. Doctors there are held in higher regard than here. They can make fun of you and dismiss your concerns by letting you know you aren't near as smart as they are. And when you or your loved one dies as a result of non-care, NO ONE WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. The incident that I am talking about happened to work colleague. Her husband was ill; they had an late arrangement to see their doctor at the 'surgery" (neighborhood clinic) to which they were assigned. The next morning, my friend's husband was dead. When she came back to work a week later, I asked what happened at the doctor appointment. Her doctor told them they were wasting his time, he shouldn't have bothered to stay late as her husband just had indigestion. Her husband died the next morning of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. I had seen him the previous day when he picked her up from work and his skin was an ugly color of gray. I am not a doctor, but even I could see he wasn't getting enough oxygen. In my line of work, I watched as two women in their 20’s died of cervical cancer because no one had let them know their pap smears were abnormal. The Doctor said it was the lab's responsibility. NO! Labs always send results to the doctor and the doctor notifies the patient of results. No one was held accountable and these two women left a total of 5 children to grow up without their mothers. No! No Socialized Medicine here!

All this coverage of Trump wanting single payer is fraudulent.

He doesn’t want it, hasn’t proposed it, and has made it perfectly clear he wants robust private sector solutions to health care provision in this nation.

Forbes is being extremely dishonest here, and FReepers who buy into it are just nutty.

Trump has stated he will see to it that state boundaries come down so insurance companies can compete nationally. Is that evidence of support for single payer? No.

He has stated he wants private sector solutions to our health care needs. Is that supportive of single payer? No.

He’s not supporting single-payer for the United States, but neither Forbes or some FReepers have been judicious enough with regard to due diligence, to actually listen to Trumps presentations.

All this flailing about trying to misrepresent Trump does is play right into the hands of his political enemies. Once again for the perpetually stupid, LISTEN UP.

List of Trump Detractors

the Left
Liberals
Socialists
Communists
Democrat leaders
Obama die hard supporters
the RNC
the GOPe
Obama
Mitch McConnell
John Boehner
John McCain
and more of the most vile entities currently existing in our nation

Oh yes, and some of the dumbest FReepers I’ve ever encountered.

Yes, I think his comments on single payer programs outside the U. S. displayed his failure to understand those systems. I’ll grant you that. But that is not what he has proposed for the United States. And that is also a fact.

How sad it is, to watch FReepers exhibit the level of ignorance some do.

They criticize Trump at length, but prove beyond a doubt they haven’t watched ten mintues of him presenting his views.

If they did, they would know what his private sector comments meant, and would see Forbes for the gutter snipe entity that it is.

Folks, what is Forbes? Is it the friend of Conservatives?

Is it closer to Chamber of Commerce and the Country Club Republican, or closer to us?

Just damn...

I like having Trump in the race because, thanks to him, the guys who are for amnesty have to at least pretend to be against it.

But obviously Trump is all over the map on everything else.

So its still Cruz for me.

I did like most of the others, particularly Jindal. Santorum is the only one willing to question *legal* immigration at a million per year. But of course he has exactly zero chance of getting the nomination. Carly handles herself well. Lindsay Graham suddenly decided he was against Obama after years of doing his bidding, so that was a refreshing surprise.

I am really unhappy with the debate moderators. The first debate moderators weren’t that good, the prime time moderators were awful. Can’t we do better?

I could give 2 sh!ts how well it worked, IF it worked that well. It is antithesis to our Constitutional Republic.

I’m not holding my breath to wait for a moderator, let alone anyone running for office, to discuss how they will be getting govt OUT of XYZ...

Hell, if it hasn’t already been, I’d be surprised to see the ‘Abolish the Dept. of Ed’ plank in the party platform!

I’d say the Canadian healthcare system “works” and also “doesn’t work”. One thing it does is to limit spending on healthcare to some percentage of their GNP, I think.

One of my daughters and her husband and three children lived in Canada for 4 years. The family went to the doctor and dentist as needed. Her husband’s grandmother, a very old woman, got major surgery with no problem.

"Trump responded: 'As far as single payer, it works in Canada, it works incredibly well in Scotland.'"

One of many slips of the tongue. It's good to see direct quotes, by the way. Too many publications prefer dishonesty through paraphrasing.
