China's devaluation raises currency war fear as Greece strikes deal (WORLD WIDE STOCK MARKET CRASH)
Reuters ^ | Aug 11, 2015 | Nigel Stephenson

China's shock 2 percent devaluation of the yuan on Tuesday pushed the dollar higher and raised the prospect of a new round of currency wars, just as Greece reached a new deal to contain its debt crisis.

Stocks fell in Asia and Europe as investors worried about the implications of a move designed to support China's slowing economy and exports.

The stronger dollar hit commodity prices, driving crude oil down after Monday's hefty gains.

Weaker stocks lifted top-rated bonds, with yields on euro zone debt also falling on the Greek deal, struck nine days before Athens is due to repay 3.2 billion euros to the European Central Bank.

China's move, which the central bank described as a "one-off depreciation" based on a new way of managing the exchange rate that better reflected market forces, triggered the yuan's biggest fall since 1994, pushing it to its lowest level against the dollar CNY=CFXS in almost three years.

The Australian dollar AUD=D4, often used as a liquid proxy for the yuan, fell 1.1 percent to $0.7324 as the U.S. dollar rose 0.4 percent against a basket of currencies .DXY before paring gains.

In Asia, the Singapore dollar SGD=D3 hit a five-year low while the Malaysian ringgit MYR= and the Indonesian rupiah IDR= hit lows not seen since the Asian financial crisis 17 years ago. The Japanese yen JPY= hit a two-month low of 125.08 to the U.S. dollar.

The euro EUR=, buoyed by the Greece deal, rose 0.1 percent to $1.1022.

U.S. reaction will be crucial. Washington has for years pressed Beijing to free up the exchange rate to allow the yuan to strengthen, reflecting the growth in the world's second-largest economy.

Today, China's economy is slowing and the new exchange rate mechanism gives markets greater ability to push the yuan lower...

...loosing it values...

Means the dollar's value is being flushed down the loo?.......yes, I think that's it.

National and International markets have different 'feels' to them when currencies are devalued...

A large American manufacturer will know the price of goods he's selling on the international market are going to move higher vs Chinese goods. A company buying Chinese goods knows those goods will be cheaper in American dollars.

On a micro level not much of the savings of this move will be passed on to American citizens... but the effect of losing still more manufacturing jobs will be felt..

I suspect that's why freepers experience this reality differently.

Either people list a stack of typical goods along with their transacted prices over time or their not to be taken seriously.

My quart of Mayfield milk was in the $.1.19-$1.29 range pre-recession. Now, and it's been stable for a couple of years, it is about $2.79.

The thing about the old inflation basket of stuff is that it periodically gets adjusted for stability by changing the contents of the goods in it - when the whole point of the basket of stuff in the first place is to measure the cost of the same goods over time.

Also, some hi-tech & expensive elective item that decreases in price a very small percentage, perhaps a PC, will offset the larger percentage rise of necessary staples.

Bottom line: Generally, the people that don't notice inflation aren't concerned with how much they pay for their groceries or other day-to-day items. They just use the old CC and pay the bill monthly without a thought as to the amount.

OTOH, folks struggling to get by sure as hell notice what is the price of a quart of milk. jmo

Just because nobody talks about it doesn’t mean the elephant left the room.

It's election season, soon. Let's use 'donkey in the room' sometimes, instead of elephant.

Depends more on whether they're buying or selling.   Lot's of folks belly ache about through-the-roof inflation and how say, the food they buy is so expensive, and then they clam up when it comes to how much their salaries have been inflating.  Interesting you mentioned milk because the reason that the dairy industry's not at all happy about the price of milk is because they say it's too low:  U.S. milk prices face downward pressure, analyst says

To be specific, Sundown, Sept 13 begins 29 Elul.

...and then they clam up when it comes to how much their salaries have been inflating.

I work at a private consulting engineering company.
I can assure you that no one there - all competent college grads - has had cause in the last decade to brag about how much their salaries have been inflating. :)
If you want to talk medical, there is some hefty inflation for sure.

New work has been hard to win following the beginning of the recession. Profit margins are literally non-existent so that the newer job budgets are routinely raided to complete older work. This problem is exacerbated by the ever more stringent environmental and other regulatory hurdles. Those letting the jobs understand our problems but they have only so much available to pay for performing the work.

So if you can arrange it, please some compensation inflation our way.

Shemitah begins at the Aviv moon, not in the fall.

The fall date is Rabinic nonsense, which has no meaning whatsoever in the realm of God.

.
That “intervention from on high” will come at tishri 1, the Last Trump; that is what the word of God says.

Until then Satan’s rule will continue, and even intensify in the 42 months of the tribulation.

The Rabbis and other fools can play their foolish games of man made Shemitim but it means nothing in reality.

Use 1Corinthians 15, and the Revelation as your guide.

Oh stop ....it’ll happen when he decides it’s gonna happen...not on some structured time line but HIS time! When God says “all right time to move,,” Then that will be the Last Trump!

I believe sundown on our Sunday, Sept. 13th is actually the start of Tishri 1.

The days go from sundown to sundown. Elul 29 starts at sundown on Saturday, Sept. 12 and ends at sundown Sunday Sept. 13.

I own a tool and die company that has been watching more and more work for a long time get sucked over there and have been seeing an easing lately.

That is where this move is really going to hurt, wait a while and watch the trade deficit start to skyrocket again, which is exactly why they are doing it.

It could be, depending on when the actual new moon is physically sighted. It is strongly expected to be 1 day later, when the moon will be 5% illuminated.

It is guesswork, as Yeshua told his disciples: “of that day knoweth no man but the Father which is in Heaven.”
