Bush Aides Who Brought Us Obama, Continue to Trash Trump (Jeffrey Lord)

Former Bush 43 aide Pete Wehner was convinced.

“Trump is Toast” he wrote in Commentary back in the middle of July. Wehner has also insisted that Trump is a “stain on the Republican party.”

Wehner points readers to what he calls this “excellent column” in the Washington Post by another ex-Bush 43 aide, Michael Gerson, in which Gerson is said to “eviscerate” Trump, writing of Trump’s alleged “politics by hammer.”

Gerson also let it fly with another recent column in the Post headlined: “A GOP led by Donald Trump will fail, and deserve it.”

Writes Gerson in this column:

And I know that the success of Trump would be the downfall of the GOP. Any party captured by rage and resentment will fail, and deserve it. Republicans should stand for responsible reform, not reckless populism.

There’s more of this kind of thing from the Bushies. Karl Rove has called Trump a “complete moron” and a “complete idiot.”

All of this begs an obvious question. Take a look at this story from CBS News that ran January 16, 2009, four days before the Bush 43 presidency ended. The headline: “Bush's Final Approval Rating: 22 Percent.”

Jeff Lord is one of the few who get it, and gets it on the “inside the GOP” level. In my mind the Republican Party is dead. You can’t imagine how foreign that concept is to me. I have voted Republican since 1968 with only one exception (Yes, I voted for grinnin’ Jimmy in 76, then regained my senses). I have walked districts in three elections this century, contributed, (don’t do a lot of phone banks, but done other support stuff). But this party has abandoned me after two landslide elections where the intent of the voters was clear, where promises were made, and where the vast majority of the GOPe in Washington has completely ignored me.

I'm with you, LS. My first two votes were for McGovern and Carter.

By 1980, I had grown up, and was in my fourth year in Germany. I was Reagan all the way, but my German neighbors pleaded with me to vote for Carter. They all knew that Reagan would start WWIII.

Fortunately by then, my German was quite good, and I spent many hours at the local gasthaus, talking about American history and driving home the point that the world is a better place when America is strong.

Shortly after Reagan was inaugurated, and the hostages came home, I was invited to sit at the stammtisch, a table reserved for family and close friends of the family.

It was a great honor IMO, and I cherish those memories.

Some of these GOPe folks need to learn about people. You will not get rid of Trump by all the plans and gimmicks. Leave him alone.

Really, hope he will get rid of himself. If that does not happen, then it wasn’t meant to be and he was meant to be.

Really, this silly stuff they do is only making Trump more popular.

The GOPe should have laid off dissing the Tea Party. They have a new more powerful T Party with money backing it. All of their current misery is caused by their backstabbing of the people who they planned on voting for them.

People in the GOP are sick and tired of being treated like black people are treated by democrats.

We aren’t going to take it anymore.

Very cool. I was within two arms’ lengths of RR at a private event in the Santa Barbara hills near his ranch. I had driven Merle Haggard’s band with Beverly Sills up to where they were to perform for RR, and was sitting on a hay bale waiting for my next assignment when RR and Nancy came in. I started to leap up to shake his hand, but this wasn’t long after the assassination attempt, and they had told us there were snipers on all the hills, and honestly, I was afraid I’d get shot. So he walked right but to the stage area.

Your right there is no two party system .
It's a strange collective .
We are at war with DC , Media and there are numerous collaborators on our side who post here .

Why these posters promote DC owned sock puppets like Walker , Rubio or Jeb or Carly or Kaisch is beyond me. These candidates are just owned servants who will make things worse by putting the Mitchy, Bonehead, Rove , and Prebius K street sell off of the US into hyper-drive .

We have never had such a deep seated elite that devises the base like we have now.

these crooks need to be powerless or at least stopped.

I think people like Walker and Rubio don’t know that they are owned. I think Carly is somewhat outside that mold, and would make a great veep for a Trump who would actually take on these guys. Cruz would be a terrific veep, but he would be much more important as an AG.

Earlier I had a poster call Lord a RINO. The IQ level of some posters is cooler than today’s temperature.

I think Trump has bought some columnists.

Republicans should stand for responsible reform....

I haven’t seen any. We gave the republicans the white house and both houses of congress and everyone was immediately told to tone it down and not brag. And I won’t even mention what’s happened since.

I think Cruz has been very smart lately .
Trashing Mitchy on the senate floor was brilliant .
I am ticked about his TPP stuff but taking out the GOP senate leaders at the knees redeemed himself.

Who knows what he and Trump met about but they would be a welcomed change in the WH.

If Trump can win and makes Cruz his AG, you will see a sea change in American law and Justice.

You’ve heard of the midnight judges? With Cruz it would be the Midnight Indictments. He’d stay up the night before he took office getting these ready for Hillary, Huma, and Holder.
