Angie's List must face claims from a woman who says it suppressed negative reviews on a contractor who bilked her, a federal judge ruled.
Janell Moore claims she paid the contractor, Bravo Philadelphia, $4,000 to remodel her kitchen after seeing positive reviews on Angie's List. The contractor did not finish the work and refused to refund her money, she says.

So there you go....I hope Janell Moore prevails.
I joined them and quick 10 minutes later
I had looked at a rating of a local contractor that was rated A
Then I looked at his reviews- and apparently he was an incompetent boob who screwed more than a few customers - there was not one single rating greater than C - except some suspiciously glowing reports (family members?)
I called them and asked how he got an A rating when non of his reviewers rated him higher than C (no explanation that made sense - something about computer calculations...)
They offered me half price to stay- I demanded a refund- I still have yet to see if it was refunded or not
I always wondered how this company could make money - they pay a ton for advertising- and I just don’t call that many contractors that I need to pay for a ‘service’ to weed them out
oops I meant that I QUIT 10 minutes later
I did the same. Funny that their refund plus was mailed to me, which cost them more in postage than that part of the refund. Bad organization but not as bad as Yelp.
What is wrong with yelp? I’ve noticed their stock is tanking.
>>> What is wrong with yelp? <<<
“Gimmie a free meal or I’ll give you a bad review.”
Companies and customers are figuring out Yelp is like the mafia. Pay them, you get great reviews. Don't pay them, you get crappy reviews.
Two ways they make money: off of you for signing up, and from the companies listed. They apparently charge the companies to have their listing at or near the top. If a company doesn't want to pay for this I don't know if they can get listed.
Angie’s List..
I can’t stand these phony sweetie pie faced people who promote evil things. Frauds.
I only hire contractors who agree to finish the job to my satisfaction before they are paid a cent. I have never failed to get what I ask for.
fraud is fraud..
drive them into bankruptcy..
besides, she is ugly as a communist...
Once you push send for your particular request, you can expect a phone call within minutes or a half hour at most. Plus, you get a short list of companies that you can call if they don't call you. No problems with HomeAdvisor, I've even sent in positive reviews and recommended one contractor to a neighbor who needed the same repairs.
One of my buddies went to hs here in Indiana with Angie.
He said she got a lot better looking after making her first million....
Yes. I've never been asked for a deposit from any of the contractors I've used through HomeAdvisor. Although, I suppose if you're doing a remodel or home addition, they probably would ask for some upfront money - which is the norm for large projects.
