From what I have seen Trump is a one issue candidate and the author is right his main appeal is emotional.

Illegal immigration does hit a nerve. But it is not the only issue that the Republican Party needs to deal with.

Then we have to deal with the problem that Trump is not a conservative and that he was not always anti-illegal. He has been a big Democrat donor and specifically a big Clinton donor.

Trump is not a natural conservative and he should not be the Republican candidate and from my observation of him over the years he is a better fit in the Democrat Party.

I think it is great that Trump is making illegals a major issue in the news but it is not the single issue that is going to win the presidency. The last time that a single issue won that presidncy that I can think of is 1860.

Looks like the article is trying to convince us that what drives us isn’t what really drives us - it’s all a case of us not understanding what pisses us off and if we come to our senses we will start ignoring what we consider to be our core values and principles.
