I think they do so at their clear and present danger, myself. Even though I’m not a Trump as President supporter.
If they want to insure the party loss in future elections they will do just that.
Maybe, but they sign their own party death warrant if they do that or try to set him or Cruz up IMO.
If that happens he will pull the nuclear option 3rd party and no Republican will win. They won’t do it.
If they want to lose 20 million viewers and be humiliated— they can try..

Love him or hate him, Trump is a master showman. He’ll completely overshadow any debate they attempt to bar him from, count on it.
Sometimes I do wonder if that’s not their intended goal. I mean, look what they’ve (NOT) done with the majorities we’ve handed to them, over the last 5 years.
Even the talk of banning Trump, flies in the face of NOT banning John McCain.
Whatever Trump is, he’s not the type of man John McCain is.

if they ban trump from the debates it will split the party permanently. I don’t support trump but the party leadership belter be carful because if they do anything like this the republican party is as dead as the Whig party..
If they did that, he would be more likely to decide to run third party now.
Before the primaries.
Which means that sore loser laws could not be used to keep him off the ballot in states that have those laws.
If they try to pull that they will likely wait until the primaries are actually underway.
Do it...then Trump can counter program a town hall and blow out their ratings...GOP are showing themselves as sniveling simpletons...
