A Letter to Donald Trump Supporters With One Big Question
The Atlantic ^ | 08/14/2015 | CONOR FRIEDERSDORF

Posted on 08/14/2015 6:20:19 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Dear Donald Trump Supporters:

You’re fed up. This much I understand. You’re fed up with politicians who say one thing on the campaign trail, like that they’re going to stop illegal immigration, and then do another in Washington; you’re fed up with insiders who rig the system for their benefit at your expense; and you’re fed up with coastal media elites and their insular subculture.

On some level I sympathize. In the last presidential election, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for any of the candidates. I just left it blank. I wanted nothing to do with my awful options.

What I don’t understand is why you think a President Trump would treat us better. If you elect the billionaire, what makes you think that he will use whatever talents that he possesses to address your grievances rather than to benefit himself? After all, he’s a man who has zealously pursued his self-interest all his life.

He’s done so as a developer in New York City, where one must be a connected insider to succeed in real estate. He is himself a member of the media elite: a reality television start who had lucrative relationships with NBC and Univision. When he has a problem with Fox News, he calls Roger Ailes on the phone!

Remember that moment in the Republican debate where he talked about giving money to politicians so that, if he wanted them to do something, they would? Then he was asked, you gave money to Hillary Clinton, so what, exactly, did she do for you? He replied that when he called and told her to come to his wedding, she did. If you were getting married, would you want Hillary Clinton sitting in the front row?

...but at least there is a good chance he will fight Glad you want to waste your vote on a chance...as opposed to voting for the guy WHO HAS ACTUALLY BEEN FIGHTING SINCE HE WENT TO THE SENATE Good grief...the rationalizations are just too much!

It’s called SMOD. Let it burn and start over. The country is too far gone to rehabilitate at this point. People are THAT angry with the GOPe.

They know Trump is a disaster. That’s what they like about him.

That guy, if he connects with voters, and gets to the top of polls, I will move him up. If he can’t get to the top in REPUBLICAN polls, how will he win in general in November?

How long will his money last to fight Bush who has the most money?

"Fighting" is irrelevant without "winning!"

How'd that whole McConnell thing work out for him?

When he has a problem with Fox News, he calls Roger Ailes on the phone!
.................................................

That right there is a lie....Ailes said that he called Trump to clear the air, mainly because the ratings of fox were tanking....

I won’t believe anything this person is writing about, he’s no better than a talking head....

A guy who grew $40,000,000 to $10,000,000,000 (250 multiplier) is not a disaster by any stretch of imagination, unless you do not understand how tough that accomplishment is.

Trump is the ONLY candidate among the 17 running, who is not in the pockets of rich donors. Why do you think the majority GOP house and senate will not do anything to help middle class? Because once they are elected, they must obey the rich donors who contributed 70% of campaign money. Interests of rich and the middle class are opposite of each other. The rich want the cheap labor express.

Go check FOX’s ratings. They were not tanking. the tanking story is a mythical fantasy.

Thank you, great post....

I can’t understand how some people here can complain about our system being corrupt so they are supporting the most self-admittedly corrupt man on the stage. He BRAGGED about buying politians and didn’t care that he was giving bagloads of money to the most vile politicians we have. That money helped them stay in power, further damaging our country.

And if he becomes the most powerful politician in our country and moves to the White House, what political favors will HE be selling???

.

Oh Oh, Mr. Cotter! I Know this answer!!!

"Trump will work for the nation's benefit rather than his own because his monumental ego will not allow him to go down in the history books as a failed President"

I should have said the Non-LIV is supporting SMOD. There are the LIVs that actually believe Trump to be a good candidate.

I am more of a political junkie than 95% of voters. I read news from everywhere every day. And I have been doing it since 1980. So I can not be classified as LIV.

At this point I see no other candidate who can do better for economic well being of the vast middle class than Trump. My conclusion is based on thousands of hours of study and introspection.

I agree that Trump could possibly be a good POTUS. The problem is that he is a loose cannon. We can’t know how he will act as we have nothing other than his past to judge. his past is dubious. Yes, he has scads of money, but it took four bankruptcies to do it. His temperament isn’t exactly presidential. His narcissism... I’ll leave it there, but I could make a list from here to the street of negatives.

I do believe he could be a great POTUS IF he makes up his mind to be and stay a Conservative. The problem is that it’s a huge roll of the dice (Russian roulette might be more appropriate.) Can you honestly say you trust this man to do the right thing or is it more that you want to believe he will because this country needs a Reagan and you pray Trump is he?

I would love to support the man if he was just halfway believable. he changes his mind daily; thus He has to study and work toward Conservatism. It does not come naturally to Mr. Trump. With that said, I know what we will get with some of the others. I’d rather SMOD than suffer more of the same, so I understand.

What makes me think I can trust Trump? Nothing. But he is saying the right things for the most part and getting his message out for all to hear. That counts for something, a lot really. He's a fighter and doesn't put up with crap, not from his wives, not from his partners. So I know that he has a good chance of getting his agenda passed.

Finally I will have suffered through 8 years of the worst President ever and I know that if Trump fails to deliver he will only last 4. Even if he does a complete 180 I will only have to wait 4 years for a change.

I think the real problem for the political class and pundits is what if Donald Trump does win and does what he says. How are we going to stop every other Billionaire from running against us? Competition is a B***ch!
