Billionaire businessman Donald Trump offered kids helicopter rides in a show of wealth as he bragged Saturday that he is willing to spend $1 billion on his presidential campaign.

"I'm turning down so much money," Trump said at a press conference kicking off his weekend trip to Iowa to visit the State Fair, with his black helicopter emblazoned with "Trump" and children standing in the background.

Trump touted turning down a $5 million donation offer this week before saying he would spend $1 billion on his 2016 Republican presidential bid "if I had to."

"Nobody else would do the job that I will do," Trump said, mentioning jobs, the military, care for veterans and the "catastrophe" of ObamaCare, which he said he would get rid of.

well, hell. that’s a difference maker in my book. sure, I’ll vote for a pro-abortion, pro-ACA, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control liberal democrat for the republican nomination.

what the hell. he gave helicopter rides.

no. I don’t read the NYT for political news. and I don’t read maureen dowd for anything at all, short of comedy.

I have no idea whether that supports my point or detracts from it, but I’m not going to drag the gaddam NYT into the conversation.

This was one of the coolest and most unique things I have ever heard of in a presidential campaign.

...pro-abortion, pro-ACA, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control liberal democrat...

There are half a dozen of you guys here saying the same thing. Do you think if you say it on every thread it will change our minds? It just annoys me and is getting old.

nope. you can’t reason anyone out of something that they didn’t reason themselves into in the first place. I’m just trying to keep the infection from spreading.

speaking of “hurt”, you are hurting the conservative movement, the republican party, and, ultimately, the country.

When college educated kids can’t find jobs, last thing they worry about is social issues. Trump is talking about jobs (China+Japan+Mexico+low wage illegals) and it is obviously resonating. Why do you think Trump is leading in every fricking state, including Florida, which has fielded 2 candidates?

Early on when there was speculation if Trump was going to run people had to guess whether it would be as a Democrat or Republican... It could have easily been either...

I think Trump made the calculation that after 8 years of Obama the likelihood of another Democrat winning was low so he bet Republican.

And now he’s saying all the right things to seal the deal. Something he’s a master at.

Amazing really...

I don’t see any evidence he has any core convictions other than promoting himself.
