A Clarifying Moment for Conservatism (Purge Trump & Trumpism)
Commentary ^ | 08/14/2015 | Peter Wehner

Posted on 08/16/2015 12:44:47 PM PDT by nhwingut

In a compelling column, George Will – who knows a thing or two about conservatism – makes the conservative case against Donald Trump. Mr. Will refers to Trump as an “unprecedentedly and incorrigibly vulgar presidential candidate” who is coarsening our civic life. He labels Trump “a counterfeit Republican and no conservative.” And he argues that Trump is an affront to anyone devoted to the legacy of William F. Buckley, Jr., the founder of National Review and a giant in American conservatism. Just as Buckley excommunicated the John Birch Society from the conservative movement in the 1960s, so should conservatives today stand up to Trump and Trumpism.

Fortunately there are conservative commentators who are doing just that, including Bill Bennett, David Brooks, Mona Charen, Charles C.W. Cooke, Michael Gerson, Jonah Goldberg, Victor Davis Hanson, Charles Krauthammer, Matt Lewis, Rich Lowry, Michael Medved, Paul Mirengoff, Dana Perino, John Podhoretz, Karl Rove, Jennifer Rubin, Kevin Williamson, regular contributors to this web site (among them Max Boot, Noah Rothman and Jonathan Tobin), editorial page writers for the Wall Street Journal and others.

George Will is the very definition of an establishment man. He makes pretty conservative noises most of the time, however, he is first and foremost for the establishment. He is among those who would rather lose while retaining the control of the elites over the party, instead of winning and upsetting their apple cart. If I recall correctly, he was not pro-Reagan until Reagan’s victory in the 1980 primaries was a foregone conclusion. That is who we are dealing with here.

Trump wouldn’t stand a chance to run for president as a Republican had the traitors in the GOP not screwed over the voters. We voted conservatives in to de-fund if not repeal Obamacare and to stop Obama’s executive amnesty and to stop Obama and the democrats in general. What have they done? They screwed over the conservatives we voted in, declared war on the conservative voters, and gave Obama every damned thing he asked for.

Screw George Will! Screw Peter Wehner! Screw Bill Bennett, David Brooks, Mona Charen, Charles C.W. Cooke, Michael Gerson, Jonah Goldberg, Victor Davis Hanson, Charles Krauthammer, Matt Lewis, Rich Lowry, Michael Medved, Paul Mirengoff, Dana Perino, John Podhoretz, Karl Rove, Jennifer Rubin, Kevin Williamson and the entire lot of sniveling RINO wimps!!

You want to stop men like Trump? Then do your JOBS!!

Hint: It’s not putting up amnesty pimps like Jeb Bush!!

Dole, McCain, Romney, Jeb Bush? Get frickken real!!

Either put up conservatives who love America, love liberty, respect the constitution, are willing to do the tough job of securing the nation while rolling back the excesses or you can kiss it off and the GOP can die and rot in hell!!

We want rebels who fight not wimps who cave and kiss the left’s ass.

This is war for the survival of America as a free nation and the left is winning it.

You refer to George Will, Karl Rove and Jennifer Rubin? Give me a freaking break!!

Screw the big government, cheap labor amnesty express GOPe RINOS!!

Trumple the corrupt, treasonous bastards!!

Donald Trump has pulled back the curtain on the Wizard of Oz, revealing very small minded, tiny simple people. Deception and manipulation are the tools they have employed over their entire careers. Everything eventually comes to an end, and the gig is up for these establishment people, heir end is in sight...

Don’t get me wrong I am glad that Trump is making the GOPe crazy and bringing illegal immigration front and center.

BUT (there is always a but) he has a history on political issues that is anything but conservative.

He was pro-socialized medicine. He was pro-H-1B visa. He was pro-Hillary.

If he doesn’t get the nomination will he run independent and give the election to the Democrats by splitting the Republican vote?

If ever there was a guy that is Republican In Name Only it is Trump. He has no Republican history and no history or loyalty to conservatism.

Non sequiturs.

George “Pinecone Up Butt” Will, and others who are playing the old game of picking a Republican and Owned Presidential mainstream candidate:

WE CHANGED THE GAME.

The People who love the Constitution and the Country are not playing that game any more. Stop the stupidity.

Right now, we are fighting the STATISTS on both phony political parties. We are fighting the oligarchy and the beholden elected puppets.

PLEASE EITHER KEEP UP OR SHUT UP.

Your first paragraph says it all!!! It is their own damn fault.

And as for the squawking heads, they are making $$ from the statists, wearing makeup and sitting with their legs crossed (’cept Krautie) saying approved sound bites. They aren’t independent thinkers, they are cocktail buddies and whiny sheep.

Just finished reading A Time for Truth—Cruz’s book that came out a short time ago. I could hardly put it down.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and my support is going to him.

Romney’s history was most certainly not conservative either, but everyone in a position of influence fell all over themselves telling us how was so electable, the best candidate, ad nauseum. Now suddenly they are worried about whether Trump is really conservative? And then we are supposed to fall in line behind the establishment candidate, probably Bush, who is most definitely not conservative. These people are so dishonest and so manipulative!

Trumps not part of their club, and they wouldn’t have special access if he was elected. Simple as that

I couldn’t agree more. However I still fear Trump may be some sort of stalking horse for the Hillary. If he goes third party after getting the conservative base riled up it is a replay of Billy Bob getting it handed to him due to Perot.

I’ve posed the question several times here and have yet to get a cogent response....
I would like for someone to show me anything that Donald Trump has done prior to 4 months ago that shows he holds a single sincerely held conservative belief.

In full disclosure I DID have one FReeper tell me that I shoudl watch the Apprentice cuz he, um, likes capitalism and stuff....seriously.

He is a bloviating, narcissist who has shown (and SAID!) time and time and time again that he holds liberal beliefs. And just because he sticks it to the nauseating GOPe, this is going to be our standard bearer? Hell, the left sticks it to the GOPe, maybe we should just vote for them?

Not in this lifetime to either of those choices from hell.

Sounds like you’re getting close to becoming a Trump supporter.

By the way, despite his past or his style, Trump trumps the GOPe’s amnesty express and that may very well save America.

Go, Trump, GO!!

Go, Cruz, GO!!

Well Cruz is a great senator, but I fear that his biography tells of how he failed to learn lessons from his ego. Then he says I got to the senate failed again and have not learned my lesson about ego. I think I’d like a humble man like Walker who learns lessons.
