GOV. JINDAL MOVES TO BLOCK REMOVAL OF ALL HISTORICAL STATUES, INCLUDING CONFEDERATE
Breibbart ^ | August 15, 2015 | AWR HAWKINS

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (R) is looking for a way to block attempts to remove historical statues–statues of Confederate leaders in this instance–from their current positions in New Orleans.

Jindal’s presidential campaign described efforts to remove the Confederate statues as “political correctness run amok.”

The statues marked for removal include one of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and P.G.T. Beauregard. Breitbart News previously reported that New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu was spearheading the effort to have the statues removed.

According to Buzzfeed, Jindal spokesperson Shannon Dirmann said:

The Governor opposes tearing down these historical statues and has instructed his staff to look into all relevant laws to determine the legal authority we have to stop it. We need to preserve our history to remember what we’ve learned and how far we’ve come. This is political correctness run amok. What’s next? Maybe we can edit our history books too, and then burn all the books we disagree with.

Mayor Landrieu did not comment on Jindal’s efforts to protect historical statues, but his spokesperson said the mayor is calling for “a 60-day period of public discussion to encourage opportunities for people to respectfully engage in public discussion about these statues … It is important that all those who are interested have an opportunity to share their perspective and opinion about this issue.”

The New Orleans Advocate said various members the Landrieu administration claim “the statues were erected a century or more ago as part of the ‘Lost Cause’ movement, aimed at rehabilitating the Confederacy.” They also claim the statues served as “emblems of white supremacy” when Democrats were opposing the expansion of liberties for blacks “during the era of the civil rights movement.”

That's the problem with politically correct morons. They can't discern the difference between real hate, racism and what is merely associated with the superficiality of whatever it is that gets them seething.

From whatever perspective you see the ugliness that was the Civil War, they were all Americans. And whatever it was that brought the war to a head, these people fought with righteous indignation and sense of principle. for one single solitary objective as Americans. They were all war heroes, American war heroes, and deserve the respect and admiration to be protected, preserved as historical artifacts, be seen and respected as such.

Thank god Governor Jindal sees it that way. But not your million throng politically prejudicial hate-mongers.

I can’t stand this. Landrieu needs to be publically called out for what he is doing (as a pandering move) and also hang the guilt for “white supremacy” around the Democrats’ necks.

Time to use their own weapons against them.

Are they removing the statues on behalf of tolerance or diversity? Or coexist? Or hope and change? Peace?

Good for him.

Obama set the south ablaze with this latest "we hate whitey" gig.

Cuz that dumb little murderer was holding up a flag and conveniently picked a black church where he could pursue a killing spree.

The best way would be to instruct the treasurer to cut the next NOLA check by 50% with no warning.

Let Landrieu bitch in the dark

Good deal for Jindal.

My question is for the “conservatives” who retreat at the slightest sign of trouble.

Would you be as willing to remove a monument to someone like Patton, McArthur, or Schwarzkopf?

The simple fact is that an act of congress signed into law by a president granted all confederate soldiers full and equal status as American soldiers without distinction. Removing these monuments is legally no different than tearing down the Vietnam Veterans memorial or WWII Memorial in Washington DC.

Jindal is uniquely qualified to lead on this. No one can credibly accuse him of sympathies or distant connections with white slave owners.

That's what frustrates me so much about the Republican response to this. The Republicans could easily turn this into a "teaching moment" to educate America that White Supremacy and Jim Crow and political terror against blacks is a 100% Democrat creation. Chisel the names of the Dixiecrat Dem politicians off of buildings and bridges and highways, etc. Explain how the Dems created the KKK and how a lot of their political heroes from the pre-1960 period were in it. Explain how Woodrow Wilson was a raging bigot.

This is the wrong way to fight this “PC” movement. Instead of blocking the removal of statues and monuments to controversial historic figures, we should should join in with them.

The first thing we should call on banning is the Democrat Party. They are the ones who supported slavery. They prevented the civil rights movement and supported Jim Crowe Laws. The KKK grew out of the Democrat Party. So, if we are going to jump on this ‘PC’ train lets do it all the way by banning the entire Democrat Party. Heck, in a way the Democrat Party is like the NAZI Party in terms of their historic accomplishments and that party is banned.

There is simply no need for this party of oppression to be in our face day after day after day reminding the liberals of their history!!!

This has nothing to with the Conferderate flag. Its about doing the Muslim’s job for them by eradicating and destroying symols of American culture and heritage. Watch what they erect in its place. I will lay money on it being something Muslim or Satanic in nature.

Thank goodness Senators Ketron & Burke (TN legislators) drafted and got TCA 4-1-412 passed last year:

(a) (1) No statue, monument, memorial, nameplate, or plaque which has been erected for, or named or dedicated in honor of, the French and Indian War, American Revolution, War of 1812, United States-Mexican War, the War Between the States, Spanish American War, the Mexican border period, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada), Operation El Dorado Canyon (Libya), Operation Just Cause (Panama), Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm (Persian Gulf War I), Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), and Operation Iraqi Freedom (Persian Gulf War II), and is located on public property, may be relocated, removed, altered, renamed, rededicated, or otherwise disturbed.

(2) No statue, monument, memorial, nameplate, plaque, historic flag display, school, street, bridge, building, park, preserve, or reserve which has been erected for, or named or dedicated in honor of, any historical military figure, historical military event, military organization, or military unit, and is located on public property, may be renamed or rededicated.

Here's a quote from a racist civil war leader - are we going to take his monuments down?

"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, - that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race." - Abraham Lincoln - September 18, 1858 Fourth Debate with Stephen Douglas: Charleston, Illinois

Oh, I can see how that 60-day discussion will go:

“Those statues are a part of hour history.”
“Black lives matter! Black lives matter!”
“We need to show what transpired and how far we’ve come.”
“Black lives matter! Black lives matter!”
“Both sides fought honorably and deserve to be remembered.”
“Black lives matter! Black lives matter!”
“The air filter in the furnace needs to be changed.”
“Black lives matter! Black lives matter!”
“OK, OK, we’ll remove the statues.”
“99 bottles of beer on the wall! 99 bottles of beer . . .”

State legislatures can stop this crap in its tracks

In Tennessee it’s made it more difficult for black run towns to purge white southern history

C Vann Woodward wrote about this in vernacular once

“Bottom rung on da fence done moved up top...sho nuff”

Snuffy Smith said it too

These emancipated yet again black leaders are sure a grateful lets heal bunch no?

Lincoln’s racial attitudes were considered mainstream for the era. If he was “racist” then everyone was racist.
