State GOP leaders plot to tie Donald Trump’s hands. [VA and NC]

Amid mounting concerns about Donald Trump’s candidacy from the GOP establishment, Republican leaders in at least two states have found a way to make life a lot harder for him.

The Virginia and North Carolina parties are in discussions about implementing a new requirement for candidates to qualify for their primary ballots: that they pledge to support the Republican presidential nominee — and not run as a third-party candidate — in the general election.

Did you ever think that is what they want - so Hillary or Biden or ( fill in black ) would be elected ?

Certainly. Whether its Bush, Clinton, or Biden, that result leaves their power structure in place, maintains status quo.

The GOP’s obsession with eliminating Trump is taking on a white whale aspect.

I will never, ever, vote for Jeb!. Under no circumstance.

If they continue to treat Trump supporters this way I will never vote for another Republican. They're just as bad as the Democrats. Neither deserve my vote.

Let me give prophesy here. The GOP-e has rigged the system to run in a liberal against 7 conservatives and then have the delegate go “ winner Take all” So that you all will not be shocked— the GOP-e will soon try to confiscate that rule and turn it to a runoff. Karl Rove and the Bushkins worked on that all day. All we have to do is wreck those conventions. The”Plan” back fired real bad and they are stuck. Go TRUMP!!

“It would anger voters to a point where besides assuring Republicans lose the presidency, it could cost them the Senate and HOR.”

-—That’s what needs to happen. And it wouldn’t be any great loss for all of us because the GOP is no different than when the Dem’s were in control

If they continue to? They lost the last election due to their manipulations. IT would take some major wooing to get me to vote Republican ever again.

From what I can gather based on info in the story and from what I know of the players and recent moves in VA, the purpose of the action is to boost Scott Walker’s chances.

Walker went to bat for Cuccinelli’s (barely-)failed campaign for Governor (which IMO only failed because of the betrayal of one particular faux-Republican operative in Fairfax County and some very peculiar things that happened in the voting there).

Whitbeck is close to Obenshain, who just became Walker’s state campaign head.

So the chances are very good this is Walker-inspired.

The same Virginia establishment Republicans stabbed Cuccinelli in the back and didn’t!t show any loyalty then.

The result was a Governor Terry McAuliffe.

Why would the GOP wish to take out a Republican who their voters overwhelmingly support?

That’s state-level politics for ya.

How’s that old phrase go? “All politics is local”

Well, Trump wants to be on a Republican ballot.

The Virginia GOP has been through a lot of changes in the past few years, and has gone through some Tea Party cleaning. I think that Republicans who are working to put everyone on the ballot deserve a candidate who won’t turn on them and help elect a Democrat.

I don’t see this as necessarily an establishment thing. Our local Virginia District is working to put many names on the Republican ballot, to avoid a repeat of 2012 — but for those complaining, it was the candidates themselves in 2012 who were too poor/lazy/unorganized to get people out to get enough signatures.

Maybe ex post facto would apply. The rules would constitute the force of law. Trump declared June 16, 2015. Many others declared before that. A couple declared after that but in time to make the debates.

They want to change the rules after-the-fact. I don't know if there are any legal precedents but I'm sure they can't keep moving the goalpost.

Eh - but the huge problem was out-of-state funding FOR McAuliffe and the establishment outside VA that didn’t help Cuccinelli.

We also had the old Republican governor in court for taking bribes, which didn’t help Cuccinelli.

The system isn’t the only thing rigged
Before the 2012 election the IN Secretary of State decertified a particular voting machine. It could be manipulated. A 200+ page report was issued and made available. Virginia chose to ignore it (the counties using the machine were in crucial swing areas) Since the republicans chose to ignore this information one can deduce they were complacent or planning on using it later themselves

It will never happen. Trial balloon. Trump as of now is as good as nominated. If they try this Trump would get 50%+ of the primary vote. These people fold at the first sign of controversy. It will never happen. Nice try!

You are correct. These are not honorable people. They are all bought. That speaks volumes. They will be very dangerous when cornered. They have their hands on the reigns and will not relinquish them till we pry them from their cold dead hands. They will be throwing everything they have at Trump. We will see every trick in the book. Up to and including El Chapo. These are mean and nasty people we are up against. It doesn’t get any dirtier than a fight for political power. And to beat the incumbent party we need a KO. We are up against an evil Cartel of one-worlders. As far as I can tell, Trump is the last great hope toward regaining anything like the status we once had. The best hope for the world is a strong America. I didn’t even expect to see this one glimmer of hope. I can only fully embrace this and put it on par with the cavalry coming to the rescue. Trump should use the Bugle Cavalry Charge for theme music.
