Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush defended the term “anchor babies” Monday during a visit to McAllen, saying the comment wouldn’t hurt him with Hispanic voters.
Bush stopped at Palenque Grill on Monday — after a fundraiser at the McAllen Country Club and meeting with local leaders — to speak about immigration and border security.
Action 4 News reporter Analise Ortiz asked Bush about using the derogatory term “anchor babies” during an interview with talk show host Bill Bennett on Aug. 19.
“What I was talking about is the specific case of fraud being committed, where there’s organized efforts,” Bush said. “And, frankly, it’s more related to Asian people coming into our country, having children and, in organized efforts, taking advantage of this noble concept, which is birthright citizenship.”

I think all anchor babies should matter equally, regardless of race or national origin.
I have a dream that a baby’s citizenship will be judged not on the color of his or her skin, but upon the citizenship status of his or her parents.
