Fox News staffers warn Trump to back off of Megyn Kelly after feud reignites

Just flagging this so that we have an easy point of chronological reference for The Day Fox’s Trump Coverage Changed.

The truce is over.

I liked The Kelly File much better without @megynkelly. Perhaps she could take another eleven day unscheduled vacation!

"@bigpaulfla: @realDonaldTrump She has come back looking like Nancy Grace"

"@mstanish53: @realDonaldTrump @megynkelly The bimbo back in town . I hope not for long ."

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 25, 2015

Roger Ailes allegedly warned Trump two weeks ago that if he didn’t lay off Kelly, he and the network would “go to war.” Well, here you go. War.

It's been 19 days since the debate- @realDonaldTrump has made his feelings clear. But THIS needs to stop http://t.co/8BmVPZTGdp #let-it-go

— Bret Baier (@BretBaier) August 25, 2015

i like @realDonaldTrump but his personal & professional attacks on @megynkelly r unwarranted-unacceptable- has 2 stop- @foxandfriends

— Brian Kilmeade (@kilmeade) August 25, 2015

Easy, Mr. Trump. http://t.co/NhSd8KqeH4

Wish pal @realDonaldTrump would cool feud with @megynkelly Point is made boss. Now world needs you to use bully pulpit to address big issues

— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) August 25, 2015

It’s going to be weird when Hannity hosts his next “Trumpmania! The New American Revolution” special and can’t invite the man himself on to comment. Anyway: Why’d Trump restart this fight? I can think of two explanations and the one you prefer will depend on whether you think Trump operates largely via unthinking ego or wily media savvy. Explanation one: It’s pure hubris. He’s soaring in the polls, he’s (sort of) filling football stadiums with devotees, and he’s the hottest ticket on cable news. He could pick up the phone at any time of day or night and instantly get put on the air on CNN, MSNBC, or Fox. Maybe he figures he’s so bulletproof right now that he can take on Roger Ailes, the most powerful man in conservative media, and win. What’s the worst that can happen? If Fox cuts him off, he’ll spend the next six months doing daily call-ins on CNN and MSNBC about what a loser network full of overrated losers Fox is.

Explanation two: It’s all part of his anti-establishment game. Trump’s core message to Republican voters is that powerful interests, including and especially interests that are ostensibly allied with them on the right like the GOP leadership in Washington, aren’t really looking out for them. On the contrary, those interests routinely sell out the concerns of their base in order to please their wealthy benefactors. Immigration is the ultimate example. A war with Fox will slide easily into that narrative. Apart from a few Trump loyalists like Hannity, he’ll say, Ailes and his network have been bought and sold by the same donor-class losers who are backing Bush and Rubio. They’re an establishment outfit that shouldn’t be patronized by conservatives who want “real change” in Washington. Fox’s leverage against an antagonist like that would normally be to cut him off entirely, but like I say, Trump’s the biggest name in media right now. He doesn’t need Fox to get a TV megaphone. And if Fox takes him on by cutting coverage of Trump way back and unleashing its hosts to excoriate him, it’ll only seem to prove Trump’s point that the network has an anti-populist agenda (with Trump himself being the avatar of populism in this formula). He’ll be frozen out of Fox forever as a guest, in all likelihood, but he’s already lost various media jobs in the course of running for president. What’s one more?

Exit question: How will Ailes play this? I think Inside Cable News is right that it’ll be a “slow play” strategy where Trump’s coverage gets gradually rather than dramatically reduced to make it harder for Trump to claim that he’s being blackballed.

Update: War?

Update: Full-court press from the Foxies:

My friend @realDonaldTrump has captured the imagination of many. Focus on Hillary, Putin, border, jobs, Iran China & leave @megynkelly alone

“drunken, late night twitter rants is exactly what I’m looking for in a president.”

Then you’ll be happy to know Trump doesn’t drink.

What few talk about is WHY Megan Kelly took the line of questioning that she did. Megan Kelly did not do or say anything without the blessings of top Fox News executives. All of those questions by each of the anchors were carefully debated and discussed within Fox News in advance of the debate. Fox is really nothing more than GOPe.

I am not a Trump supporter but could easily vote for him if he is the nominee. I am a CRUZader.

Continuing Post # 13. It reminds me of Houston TX in the 1970s. The classified section of the Houston Chronicle used to run ads that said things like “Wanted. Gal Friday with oil company front-office looks.” So passe!

He’s marginalizing the network. Even conservatives are pissed at Fox now. They’re news coverage capabilities are the worst of the big newsers. They’ve been getting by on analysis and throwing red meat to the right.

Megyn unmasked the network. The gravy train comes to a stop now. They more they enable the GOPe, the worse its going to be.

Why would Trump stop fighting the subsidized communication medium for Jeb Bush (Karl Rove works there!!)?

It’s going to get worse.

I’m shocked he hasn’t used ‘Unfair and imbalanced’.

Fox attacks, Trump derides.

I would rather have a fighter than the likes of Yeb and Twit Romney.

Turned off Fox news, will not click their website and only view it at the stores/restaurants to learn which advertisers to call or e-mail and tell them why I am no longer buying their products, due to being on Faux News.

Keep hitting them Donald, Keep hitting till they stop flinching, then hit them again... just like a Jihad moron on a French train....put the boots to them as required.

except he doesn’t drink.

I won’t watch her anymore because I disagree with Ailes - I thought her debate questions were entirely wrong and she intended to take Trump out. Then apparently Megyn started off last night by putting on leftists to discuss Trump’s immigration plan. So fair and balanced. /s

I do think he should cool it with the name calling - not productive - but I can understand him not wanting to take the $hit from these people who feign honesty and lack of bias. Problem is - how does this end?

During a funny and flippant interview with SiriusXM host Howard Stern in 2010, Kelly talked about her breasts and how big her husband’s penis was, and how much she liked aloof alpha bad boys.

“Did you ever think about being a stripper?” Stern asked. “Ever in your life?”

Kelly laughed, saying, “No, and I don’t think I’d be very good at it. No, no, no.”

“Would you ever get implants?” Stern said.

“No, I don’t think so,” Kelly said.

“Those are real breasts,” Stern continued.

“Yeah, these are real. I mean, they don’t look fake, please–” Kelly said, as Stern said, “Wow.” “When I got pregnant–”

“Well, you’re a C-cup, aren’t you?” Stern asked. “You are.”

Kelly laughed. “My husband calls them ‘killer Bs’.”

“Oh, they’re Bs. They look like Cs to me, don’t they? Tell her where that bra store is. They’ll upgrade her,” Stern joked.

“Did you ever feel pressure–” Stern began while Kelly replied: “We used to call them ‘Killer Bs,’ then when I got pregnant they became ‘Swimmin’ Cs,’ and Doug was frolicking in the ocean.”

“Really? So you and Doug still have a good sex life?” Stern asked. “Even after the baby — you know that’s a real issue.”

“Well, there’s a certain period of time where that’s not possible,” Kelly said matter-of-factly. Which is quite true. “You know, after you have the baby, you’re off-limits for a while.”

“You had sex during your pregnancy?” Stern asked. “Some guys–”

“There were no issues,” Kelly said. “No issues.”

“Really? Even in the third trimester?” Stern asked.

“Even in the third trimester,” Kelly said proudly. “But that’s all I’m going to say. Yes, yes.”

“Wow — no kidding,” Stern said. “Your husband’s a real man.”

“You know, I have to say — I don’t know, I think it’s Dr. Phil that says that, when the sex is bad, it’s 95 percent of a marriage. When it’s good, it’s five percent of a marriage. And for us, it’s five percent of the marriage.”

“When you make love — if your, if your husband had been small, physically; I’m talking about his penis–” Stern began.

“Ah!” Kelly interjected with a laugh.

“–would you not have married — was that, like, important to you? Like would you have said: ‘Look, I don’t think I could live with a penis this small,” he said.

“I reject the hypothetical. There’s no issues there,” Kelly said.

“It’s not important to you?” Stern said.

“I’ve never had to choose. Let’s put it that way,” Kelly said.

“Do you think Roger Ailes has a small penis?” Stern asked, as Kelly and his co-host laughed. “Did your husband ever come to you and say: ‘Look, I don’t care about your first husband or anything, but am I bigger than your first husband?’”

“He’s not insecure in that department,” Kelly said.

“Because when you said your husband is aloof, that to me signals he has a big penis,” Stern said.

“He’s the perfect amount of aloof, though, you know?” Kelly said. “You don’t want somebody’s who’s going to be too clingy. That’s the problem.”

“That’s me. I wouldn’t leave you alone, right,” Stern said.

“That’s not that hot,” Kelly said. “You gotta be at arm’s length a little, like maybe not call every time, and maybe take a little while before you return the phone calls, and–”

“Sounds like he has a big penis,” Stern said. “Sounds about seven inches.”

“You like all those games, anticipation and wonder?” Stern’s co-host asked.

“Well, he’s not playing games. He genuinely is that way. He’s just not somebody who would be frolicking after you like a puppy dog, which I like!” Kelly said. “You have to work a little to get him.”

“And you also don’t want to be his mother, and sit there, and mother him,” Stern said.

“No, no,” Kelly stressed. “I want somebody who’s going to bring it. Confident, exactly. Smart. He’s very smart. That’s a turn-on.”

Roger Ailes, the most powerful man in CONSERVATIVE media

Are you serious?

All of the Fox puppets have now been told what to say. And don’t look for Trump to be on Hannity anymore either. I hope Trump doesn’t back down. If I was him I’d say “I’m merely reporting the truth fair and balanced. Next I’ll be tweeting Kelly’s porn pictures and her interview with Howard Stern where she talked about her husbands penis size.”

Very few of Fox’s viewers know her real past.
