The South Carolina Republican Party is joining the push to tie Donald Trumps hands.
The state party announced on Tuesday that for presidential candidates to qualify for the South Carolina primary, they must pledge to support the Republican presidential nominee and not run as a third-party candidate in the general election.
The move comes as two other state parties, North Carolina and Virginia, ponder similar loyalty pledges. Its an offensive that is implicitly aimed at Trump, who has repeatedly refused to rule out a third-party run.
It comes amid mounting frustration in Republican establishment circles over Trumps candidacy. Despite coming under a hail of criticism in recent weeks, Trump has gained strength in the contest, holding steady atop state and national polls.
To qualify for the South Carolina primary a critical early-state contest that has traditionally played a key role in shaping the Republican nomination battle Republican candidates are being asked to sign a pledge saying they hereby affirm that they generally believe in and intend to support the nominees and platform of the Republican Party in the November 8, 2016 general election.

Trump needs to quote Obi-Wan:
“Strike me down and I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.”
Trump is ahead in SC in a poll released today, 30-15 over Carson in 2nd place. Home state Lindsey is at 4. I think these state parties are on the verge of collective brain aneurysms, and don’t know how to deal with this.
Who is Nikki beholden to, Trump or the Establishment? There you have it. Yes, she has to be a BIG part of this.
Can Trump run as the GOP candidate in most states and as a third party in these three states?

Sounds like a good question to me. Hope somebody answers it.
This pledge works both ways. Are the other candidates prepared to support Donald Trump?

At the debate, they all said they would support the rep nominee. We may just find out how many of them were lying.
“Im not a big Trump fan, as Cruz is my man, but the GOPe are making a HUGE mistake by playing dirty tricks out in the open like this.”
I concur except you need to say “yuge” mistake.;-)
Mika posed a question this morning, as to what happens if it’s Biden, Bush and Trump, riding on the Dem, Republican, Independent ticket?
I think Trump still wins. Maybe by a larger margin than if he stays on the R ticket. I dunno.
Just draft a loyalty oath for them to sign saying they’ll support Trump if he wins. If they sign his, he’ll sign theirs.
They won’t sign his, and if the press the issue Trump can pound them into the ground over their hypocrisy.
Matt Moore is the SCGOP chairman who came up with this BS — https://twitter.com/mattmooresc <-—let him know how you feel about this on his twitter page
Is this before or after Sen. Linda Graham beats Trump’s brains out, as the honorable senator from South Carolina has threatened to do.
Trump cannot kill the GOP. The leadership beat him to it. The GOP is already dead. Pay attention.
Trump & Linda are already twitter feuding so this is going to be interesting with SC actually doing this (other states ‘pondering’). Maybe hiding behind the loyalty oath put forth by the ‘establishment’ is Linda’s way of “beating Trump’s brains out”. I have no doubt Trump will find a unique and effective way of dealing with this spit in his face that will make the GOPe rue the day they didn’t “play fair”.
Let’s not forget that Presidential candidates WILL not be the only candidates
on the primary ballots.
If you piss off a bunch of Trump supporters, they will show up, write his name in
THEN vote against EVERY single congress critter on the ballot.
We are taking about MASSIVE “Cantoring” as a result.
Does the GOPe’s really want to take that risk?
We shall see.
The fact the GOPe is pulling this crap (it will backfire on them) just makes you despise these SOB’s even that much more.
Thye do this, you can officially stick a fork in them as a party.
.
Donald Trump would probably “open his political checkbook” (picture Hoover Dam torn asunder) to run TV ads against GOPe candidates (Yeb, Rubio, Kasich, Huckabee) in states where Donald Trump had been “prohibited” to run ...
As a political candidate, I would NEVER want to be on the “receiving end” of a Donald Trump funded “do-or-die” political advertisement war ...
.
They didn’t do it in NY-23 district when Doug Hoffman beat DEDE.
A three party race with at least two name candidates will result in an election in the house. Not going to go for Trump.
This is ridiculous. The Constitution was created by people that had disdain for political parties. Wondering how this is legal.
Perhaps some Mark Levin type here at FR can explain that one.
Thank you. I Tweeted—something I almost never do.
