He walked right up to where they were conducting the interview and pointed his pistol at her for several seconds while standing right next to the cameraman. No one saw him, which was creepy. He then took a couple of steps back and fired.

Based on the distances between the victims in the approach video frames, I’d guess he was between 4-5 feet from the reporter when he opened fire and point blank to the cameraman.

What's important is not "studying him" or discovering his motivation ... what's important is that he dies quickly (and, hopefully, aware and in pain).

Less likely, but maybe the cameraman was hit on and responded he wasn't interested, perhaps forcefully, and the perp took that as a micro-agression, or something.

Ott, Camerman Wards fiance, was producing the news Wednesday morning, and it was her last day on the show. Ott was starting a new job in Charlotte and Ward was going to move with her. The news crew had a party for Ott that morning .....only to learn her fiance was shot and killed later today...
