Trump's lean campaign structure breaks the mold
AP ^ | 8/27/15 | JILL COLVIN

Not only is Donald Trump an unconventional candidate, he's got a campaign operation that turns the conventional wisdom of electoral politics on its head.

While Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton boasts an army of more than 350 paid staffers, Trump's operation fields less than a tenth that number.

It includes a coterie of about a dozen paid staffers operating out of the campaign headquarters at Trump Tower on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue — the same building where Trump lives and runs his real estate empire.

His team has no pollster, fundraisers or media consultant and only announced its first fulltime, big-name policy adviser this week.

The rest of the 25 or so paid members of the Trump campaign are mostly in the early- voting states of New Hampshire, Iowa and South Carolina, states where the billionaire businessman-turned-reality TV host is ahead in polls, leaving the Republican establishment scratching its head.

"Like the rest of Mr. Trump's campaign, we're not following the playbook," said Trump's recently hired national political director, Michael Glassner, who worked for Sarah Palin's vice presidential campaign.

"So what may have been the typical profile for somebody to run a primary or caucus campaign, we're willing to look beyond that, find the people who are the best and the smartest."

It’s easy to economize when the MSM, FOX news punditpukes, GOPe, Democrats, Hispanic News, et al are giving you hundreds of millions of dollars worth of free press.

Correct. And Twitter and Facebook are other ways to reach millions of people in a very direct and economical manner.

No need to spend hundreds of millions of dollars saturating the airwaves with annoying ads.

That 10-second Instagram Ad featuring Barbara Bush saying this country has "had enough Bushes" was devastating to Jebbie. And it was viewed by millions of people for practically no cost at all.

This could be Trump's newest business venture - media consulting. He's clearly deviating from the prescription of the current "experts." He's running rings around conventional wisdom.

This is the reason most of the candidates are jealous - they are spending fortunes on consultants, pollsters, and staff only to find themselves dropping in the polls. Trump knows how to stretch a dollar, that’s for sure. I’ve always heard that the Scottish were very frugal, and Trump’s heritage is Scottish.

“Michael Glassner, who worked for Sarah Palin’s vice presidential campaign.

Now there is a man I would not trust to clean up after my dog. My opinion is Trump is either real foolish for hiring him or is not whom I think he is.

Just look at what Glassner did to or allowed to be done to Gov. Palin.

When you’re your own person with your own beliefs you don’t need 350 people around you telling you who said what, how to respond, which word to choose and to avoid etc..

Interesting article, and it made me think about a remark Fox’s “Campaign Carl” Cameron after the the event where Trump challenged Jorge Ramos.
Cameron said the audience comprised a large number of Republican caucus delegates, many of whom he recognized after spending years covering campaign events.
To me, THAT is a significant indication of strong Trump support among “those who matter”.

But Trump knows Palin, so she probably gave a good recommendation. I doubt he at a level that could decide on what Palin could and couldn't say about Obama.

This doesn’t sound any different from any other new insurgent campaign to me.

The pollsters and data-crunchers will come from the Party if he gets the nomination.

Why should he trust the professional political consultants when those same consultants lost two elections to Obama - a president worse than Jimmy Carter?

Now, extrapolate that out to how he would run Washington. Don’t think he doesn’t see it- this is where the corruption and the waste is. And a big part of how America went down the toilet.

Chapter 2 of the "Art of the Deal" shows exactly how and why Trump is campaigning the way he does. It was written back in the late '80's and it shows his approach to the media and how he handles them as well.

Make no mistake Trump is a marketing genius and he's been using the same techniques for decades with great success.

He was also a former chief of staff for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s PAC.

Clearly Trump is the smartest guy the GOP has had for a long time.
The “Barbra Bush” ad would have been the first one Hillary would have ran once LittleJebbie got the nomination.

Except Jeb hadn’t figured that out yet.

A businessman running the campaign like a business! Who’d a thunk it!?
Hey, if he needed more people, he would add them. But he doesn’t, and business is not about pissing away all your money.
Unless you are a left-o-crat, government-lover, or RINO; then it is.

Just what I was thinking. Hillary running her campaign like it was the big government she knows.
