Can We Trust Trump? (Vanity)
August 27, 2015 | Myself

Posted on 08/27/2015 7:39:54 PM PDT by Crucial

I just have to wonder if Trump can be trusted on any number of fronts. Most importantly can he be trusted to pick one or two Supreme Court justices. Of course, Hillary can't be trusted whatsoever. Trump would be preferable to any Democrat. And I think Walker and Cruz and Carson are men with good intentions but that may be a moot point. I'm just worried that Trump might just go his own way and what anyone else thinks becomes inconsequential due to his dominant personality. The condition of this country is not good and I have no idea what kind of president Trump will be.

Yeah sure... or maybe Cruz just wants to pick up Donald’s supporters. C’mon man, you got to be more cynical when it comes to politics.

I trust him more than the others. All of the others exist within the political system and rely on large donors, many of whom have goals contrary to those of the American people. Trump doesn’t have that problem. I don’t expect to agree with everything he does, but I do think he’s the only one running who has a chance of turning this ship around.

Until I know the answer to that, I won’t commit. I know about the two I do support. I like Trump, but I do not want to be played for a fool.

One of the other posters made mention of the American Empire. I think that is a fair assessment. And with all empires, they need an emperor. The only thing that crosses political divides and attracts low information voters is populism/nationalism.

We have to face it. Most of America are not FReepers, either in membership or thought. This isn't a, "people are stupid" remark but just the nature of civilization. Consider how many colonists supported the revolution. It wasn't even a majority.

Trump exhibits all the trademarks of someone who has an America first policy which resonates with most people, excluding, of course the multiculturalist left.

The political parties can't be considered fulfilling that role. The notion of politics ending at the water's edge is dead as far as they're concerned. Both from the Democrats and the Republicans. Corporations sure don't fill that role. Globalization has seen to that.

In terms of Trump's political philosophy it isn't exclusively right or left. If elected he's going to do things we love and things we hate. If I had to put a name to it I would consider it a sort of John Stuart Mill-inspired utilitarianism which essentially says, "if it works then it's right," or whatever does the most good for the most people. It is somewhat divorced from conservative or liberal political philosophy but is not libertarian either.

If you think that the next election can be considered, "2016 or Bust" for America then Trump makes all the sense in the world. An America first policy in all aspects of nation-statehood.

Cruz is the guy we need. He’ll prove it with his excellent ground game.

I agree. To me it is a no-brainer. Cruz is the most solid choice we have. It is frustrating that he has not done better in the polls.

It’s either Trump, or a pretty much the rest of the ‘political class’, who I know you all trust dearly. (Except Cruz, but he’s not going to win. As much as I would like to see it, he’s just not as sufficiently ‘push back’ as Trump, witness Cruz’s attempt to discuss the 14th Amendment as it may relate to ‘Anchor Babies’)

Well said.

Immigration and multi-culturalism have our country (and the first world, for that matter) at an existential crisis point. The Donald is far from perfect, but I think he is the right fit for this moment in history.

And just how do you KNOW you can trust Carson. He has absolutely no track record on anything other than brain surgery.

Trump or Carson or Fiorina have never held any elected office, but have all three been very successful in their careers. The last president we elected whom had never held any elective office had a damn good eight years in office. Dwight D. Eisenhower.
I suspect any of these could do as well. I do know there is no way in hell I would vote for anyone and I do mean any one that has been part of that cesspool known as Washington D.C. and at this stage of the game, it appears all of current and past governors are toeing the RNC line to the degree they are not worthy of my vote.
As for trusting Trump. Trump has never lied to us. Neither has Fiorina or Carson.

LOL. I like what you said in post 4. I shouldn’t like it, but it’s funny.

Well, to be fair, Jindal is good, too. He has just received no attention.

Explain to us how we get Cruz nominated when we haven’t been able to get one single Conservative past the Democrats and Moderate Republicans who vote with us in our primaries?

We haven’t been about to do that since Reagan in 1984.

I wish we could, but the idea we can is simply delusional.

Never mind the fact he’s polling @ 7% in the latest Quinnipiac national poll.

I know polls are not the be all to end all, especially this early. But Trump is leading by triple most of the other candidates (with some exceptions).

I know state-by-state polls are still accurate, but Cruz is not even winning in Texas, his home state.

I know good ground games win and Cruz is building his, but Trump hasn’t even begun to form his ground game yet.

I know Cruz has many smaller donors, but some are large enough to control the candidate to a degree. Trump is a billionaire and is not accepting large, corporate type donors. He has more freedom to speak his mind.

Cruz is still giving non-answer, answers, or answers that need parsing to understand. Trump has lead the way on telling it like it is, illegal immigration, trade deals, has the GOP and MSM befuddled and has sucked the oxygen out of the room for the rest of the candidates.

Ted Cruz is a lightning rod and has been in political office for the last number of years whether in Texas or the Senate. The top three candidates in most polls (Trump, Carson and Fiorina) have never held political office.

It’s a tough road to hoe.

I don’t understand why Cruz is losing to Bush. Why isn’t he fighting? Bush is the definition of a soft target.

I agree. Wish Cruz could get his numbers up.

Working with Trump may just accomplish that.

Be interesting to see what his numbers do after 09/09.

LMAO

Now that was funny.

Nick isn’t your general Leftist, so he wouldn’t fit on there, but that was a hoot.

Great line...
