An Open Rant Aimed at Those Who Would Repeal the Second Amendment
nationalreview.com ^ | 8/27/2015 | Charles C. W. Cooke

We should be absolutely clear about what Delaney is arguing here: He is a) agreeing with Jefferson that “laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind,” b) contending that “progress” suggests that the individual right to keep and bear arms is now counterproductive, and c) concluding that it is time therefore to make a “change in law and constitution” — in other words, to repeal the Second Amendment. This, it is true, is not a mainstream position on the American Left — at least, it is not one that is argued openly. But it is a reasonably popular one on social media, it has strong support within the more leftward-leaning parts of the political commentariat, it is often implied by the casual manner in which progressives such as President Obama refer to “Australia” and other heavily regulated nations, and it enjoys indirect approval from around one quarter of the American public. When the likes of Rob Delaney and Bill Maher and Keith Ellison say that we need to get rid of the Second Amendment, they are not speaking in a vacuum but reflecting the views of a small but vocal portion of the American population. And they mean it.

That being so, here’s the million-dollar question: What the hell are they waiting for? Go on, chaps. Bloody well do it.

Understanding the 2nd starts by asking the right questions. The first of which should be:

Who has the natural right to defend themselves against attack and injury?

The second question should be:

Should the citizen fear the criminal or should the criminal fear the citizen.

Properly answering those two questions, if the answers are intellectually honest, leads to the inescapable conclusion that The People have the right to own and to carry on their person, the same means of combat that the criminal uses (firearms).

Who has the right to protect their Second Amendment-protected property from unconstitutional government taking?

Hmmmm?

I recall an internet discussion where a bunch of leftists were talking about confiscation.

I referred them to one of Matt Bracken’s essays, and said that congressional staffers would be considered fair game by a couple of million Second Amendment supporters in a Fourth Generation war scenario.

The shocked silence after a fearful “but the staffer’s did not vote for it!” was precious.

It is rampant all over social media today: Leftists are cheering the Virginia shooting, and the blacker the louder.

They want whites dead.

And the white Leftists are screaming almost as loud.

They want their political opponents dead.

Do you see the pattern?

To paraphrase Mitch Bouyer, Indian scout and protégé of Jim Bridger, all you have to do is “pop (two or more bad guys) over to the other side,” and they can never get even.

that little joke always irritates the hell outta me.

By the time you need to actually USE that little joke, its WAY past time to be actually USING the guns.

My guns will not be lost in a boating accident. They’ll be right by me....or at least some will be. Others will not. They might take some, but then its on.

Those who say they’re lost in a boating accident might as well just hand them over, because it is obvious that they’re not prepared to use them if the time were ever to tragically visit us.

My oath to the Constitution is to defend it against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic.

And if they would abrogate my constitutional rights under the Second Amendment, so to do they forfeit their previous right under Article Three Section Three regarding corruption of blood; their children are fair game, as are spouses, parents siblings, the family's pet parrot and monkey.

The useful thing about hanging [or bayonetting] traitors rather than shooting them is that the rope is reusable and saves ammunition.

“in other words, to repeal the Second Amendment.”

The problem with this, is that the founders said that this is one of those God given rights. This is not a right given by man, but given by God. And as such, this right is nonrepealable!!

Nonrepealable but still taxable. Washington State has begun already.

I love playing battlefield pick up. Great ammo and gear for the taking but you need to go thought pockets for change before the body’s get gooey. Had a great AK-47 in 1973 that had only been dropped in the sand once.

It might be easier for the fed’s to fight in inner cities or suburban areas but not so easy if they have to go in mountains.
